Celebrating Fallon's final 'Late Night'

The Muppets band joined Jimmy Fallon as he hosted his last episode of The Muppets band joined Jimmy Fallon as he hosted his last episode of "Late Night."Jimmy Fallon hosted his final "Late Night" on February 7Andy Samberg was his final guestThe Muppets also helped him transitionFallon will begin hosting "The Tonight Show" on February 17

(EW.com) -- "You gotta pull it together man," Andy Samberg, the final guest on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," told his friend. "You're moving up a time slot, across the hall, bigger stage, this is all good stuff!"

Fallon, who has proven again in his last week before taking over "The Tonight Show" just what a gracious, big-hearted guy he is, agreed that he was a mess. "I'm an Irish mush!" he said.

And bless him for it.

Jimmy Fallon gets emotional during last 'Late Night' show

Fallon navigated his final week with a sense of decency that was both unapologetic and generous. Three episodes were taped remembrances of the show's best digital shorts (like "Jersey Floor"), musical performances (an acoustic version of "Blurred Lines" that somehow managed to rinse clean the scuzz of the song), and comedy bits (I could watch Matthew Broderick trying to make a taco with mannequin hands every night of the week).

Meanwhile he was a sweet and respectful guest for Jay Leno, for long an easy butt of late night comedians but whom Fallon never shamed or undercut throughout this long transition. I admit to feeling confused by Thursday's penultimate show, as Fallon returned to his more traditional format. His monologue was pitch perfect, bowing down to "The Tonight Show" host of 22 years.

"The ratings have been so good I think we're going to have another week of saying goodbye to Jay Leno," he said. "It was Jay Leno's last show tonight. That's a bummer. I like that guy." He paused to point out the obvious to the always excellent Steve Higgins. "I mean, in a way it's good for me..." he said.

Later, Colin Farrell came on and seemed uncomfortable pitching his underwhelming "Winter's Tale." Chris Pratt seemed better suited to the sense of growing nostalgia in the studio. "Nice people deserve success," Pratt told Fallon in his congratulations before the lot donned ridiculous bubble suits and played elevator soccer.

Jimmy Fallon writes Jay Leno a truly thoughtful thank-you note

That's where so much of the pleasure in watching Fallon is found. He's game and a goof, completely lacking in cynicism and guile. When he's playing the guitar next to Bruce Springsteen or hashtagging with Justin Timberlake he has the shiny glee of a kid let loose in a candy store. If this sounds like an unabashed enthusiastic fan note, maybe it's because I'm writing about a man with such unabashed enthusiasm.

The only thing clearer than how much Fallon loves what he gets to do for a living is how much he leans on and respects the people he gets to do it with. Towards the end of the show, Higgins assured Fallon he was going to be great on "The Tonight Show" starring Jimmy Fallon. "You're going to be so good because you're nice, you're sweet, you're super hilarious and you are the best person on earth," his friend said. "You are perfect for this job."

In "Late Night's" final moments, after Fallon's low-key and tender performance of "The Weight" with the Muppets band, its host walked alone down the deserted hall of 6A. On the other side of the exit waited Fallon's exuberant cast and crew. He jumped into their celebratory scrum as the door closed behind him. It was at once the perfect ending and an auspicious beginning.

There are so many great clips from "Late Night" but I also picked this weird one of Questlove throwing up because of Fallon's stunned and delighted reaction. Fittingly, it was one of the host's favorite memories from 969 shows.

10 Date Night Movies He Won't Hate

It can be kind of tough to get a guy to watch a chick flick with you, because there’s just so much about them that we don’t understand. Most romcoms won’t hold our interest. Case in point: I once started absentmindedly beatboxing in a theater in the middle of 27 Dresses because I zoned out and completely forgot where I was and got yelled at. Here are some date night movies your boyfriend won't hate.

1. Casablanca. There are Nazis and intrigue and that guy who yells, “Hide me, Reek!” It feels like a spy film, but it’s really about the simmering tension between Rick and Ilsa. SPOILER ALERT: He may not get the girl, but that doesn’t make their final scene on the tarmac any less romantic.

2. Safety Not Guaranteed. I think this is one of the best movies to come out last year. It’s weird and quirky and oddly romantic. Also, Aubrey Plaza is in it. You should have no problem getting a guy to watch this.

3. Anything with John Cusack. There’s something known as the John Cusack Cinematic Pull Principle (JCCPP). Guys will watch anything with John Cusack. We’d prefer fare like Grosse Pointe Blank or High Fidelity. The JCCPP is the reason I accidently watched most of Must Love Dogs on TV by myself.

4. Up. Yeah, I realize that most of this movie is about an old guy and a little kid, but that beginning. Also, the end when (SPOILER ALERT) Carl realizes that Ellie never needed to go on an adventure because the real adventure was them spending their lives together? That tugs at the heartstrings. I mean, whatever, I hate romance and stuff AND I’M NOT CRYING RIGHT NOW! YOU’RE CRYING!

5. When Harry Met Sally. Billy Crystal when he was still funny and Meg Ryan before she cheated on Dennis Quaid. This is a movie that is a comedy and also romantic, but it skirts cheesiness so it’s not a romcom. Always a safe choice.

6. Annie Hall. Granted, this movie is kind of depressing, but there’s still an intense love between the two leads and also it’s a Woody Allen movie. That’s all you need to know.

7. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This one is pretty offbeat, but that’s why you can sneak it in there without it registering as romantic. Strip away all the sci-fi aspects and pretense and it’s still about two people who can’t imagine their lives without each other.

8. Bonnie and Clyde. Admittedly, this one might be a bit of a stretch, but there’s still something pretty romantic about lovers going on a crime spree together (or is that just me?). Also, it’s not as crazy and violent as True Romance and not as weird as The Fifth Element (don’t even try to argue with me that The Fifth Element isn’t romantic — the titular element is literally love). This is a great pick if both of you are psychopaths.

9. The Princess Bride. It has action and Andrè the Giant and also Westley on a quest to save his true love. The dynamics of the story are a bit antiquated, but it has “As you wish” for the ladies and “My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die,” for literally everyone.

10. Forgetting Sarah Marshall. For the record, this is also a great break-up movie. Funny enough to be considered a straight up comedy, but it also has a lot of real human interaction and great views on love and moving on and mushy stuff.

Lindsay Lohan Is Doing Well Enough To Host Saturday Night Live, Apparently

Every day feels like a new milestone in not being a colossal mess for Lindsay Lohan, and today, in my ongoing column Lindsay Lohan SobrietyWatch2013, there's even more good news for the newly sober starlet!

RadarOnline reports that Lohan made such a promising impression when hosting Chelsea Lately (it really was pretty good, wasn't it?) that she's been invited back to host Saturday Night Live on the sketch comedy show's upcoming season opener. Get 'em, Linds.

It's Lohan's sixth time hosting the show; her last appearance, a few months before she returned to treatment last year, was fairly dismal, but those were darker hours for LiLo, and recent showings have proven that it's a new era. Besides, she's a naturally gifted comedienne, and her wit has proven self-deprecating enough for even SNL's trenchant style.

Although the appearance isn't a done deal yet — apparently, she's "considering doing it," says a source, because "she loves the show and the people involved.” But that same source reports that it's a good moment for her to strike, since things are actually, y'know, good: "Lindsay is doing really, really well. She is going to business meetings and she’s been on time for every single one of them. This is the best I’ve seen her in years.”

In fairness, that source is probably Dina, but that doesn't mean it isn't true.

"I'm Not A Virgin—But I'm Waiting for My Wedding Night"

Way back when, women saved themselves for marriage all the time.

Now, a woman waiting to get down with her fiance 'til the night of their wedding is pretty damn rare.

But Jean S., 28, who got engaged last summer to her long-time boyfriend, Andrew L., 27, and is set to marry this September, doesn't fall into either of these categories.

Instead, the couple has decided to hold off on having sex until their wedding night...which is six months away.

"It actually kind of started by accident," Jean says. "We just realized we hadn't had sex in longer than usual because we had been so busy with work stuff, and we made a joke about it and somehow it turned into: 'Why don't we wait for the wedding?'"

Jean then said the joke turned into reality. "But then it was like, 'But why don't we wait for the wedding? It would make it even more special. And there's so much other stuff between us that's more important."

"It obviously won't be just like my first time all over again, but it'll be more special than a random Tuesday night. I think it'll add something. We're not having a super fancy wedding, either," she says.

The bigger question: How did she convince her fiance to go six months without sex?!

"Actually, he wasn't as against it as you would think," she said, laughing. "We've been really busy with moving, our jobs, and the wedding. Plus, there are plenty of other things besides regular old sex. We're not refraining from oral or anything. We're definitely both keeping ourselves and each other satisfied."

Well, then...

The Hot New Wedding Night Wear: Spanx

Buying bridal lingerie is practically as ritualistic as choosing your wedding gown. However, many women are now forgoing the sexy stuff and opting for practical instead, swapping itty-bitty lacy things for control top, suck-you-all-in shapewear. (So not as sexy.)

At least that's what's happening in Great Britain where, across the country, Spanx now out-sells bridal lingerie at Debenhams department stories six to one. This wasn't always the case, according to one of the store's personal shoppers, who told told the Daily Mail that lingerie used to be way more popular among brides than it is now.

Honestly, I totally get it. While buying some sexy bridal lingerie is one of the things I'm really looking forward to pre-wedding, I sure as heck don't want traipse around wearing garters under my dress all day nor have lace-covered underwire poking into my underboob while I'm trying to bust a move on the dance floor. Plus, in a white dress, on a day when about 4,000 photos are being taken of me every second, I'd like to keep the inevitable stomach pooch at bay.

So, while I'd love to be able to rip off my gown when we get to our honeymoon suite and surprise my groom with the hottest bra-and-panty set he's ever seen in his life, I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen. Plus, as far I know, no one has sex on their wedding night anyway (and most of us have already had it, many times, with and without sexy lingerie).

I'm still going to buy something pretty to sexily commemorate getting married—but I don't think my guy's going to have the chance to see it until our honeymoon.

How To Recycle Last Night's Makeup Look (Because We Know You're Not Washing Your Face Every Night)

Listen, we've all been there. You're dead tired, kind of tipsy, and just got home from hanging with the hottie you met at the gym. The last thing you want to do is wash your face, let alone wipe off your eye makeup. So, what do you do? Face plant into your pillow, that's what. No judgements, don't worry.

Here's the thing, while we don't recommend making this a habit, it happens. But, here's the beauty in it all: The next morning after you wash your face and your eye liner is sort of in tact, we say go ahead and rock last night's liner again.

So, if you're planning on leaving your eye liner on for round two, let us at least tell you how to touch it up and make it look freshly applied.

All you need is a cotton swab dipped in some petroleum jelly, or a cotton swab filled with makeup remover to clean up your eye makeup mess. The latter is a genius invention that we wish we would have created, but since we didn't, we'll just use the hell out of them instead. Jane Iredale Dot the i Makeup Remover Swabs, $23, janeiredale.com, and Almay Makeup Eraser Sticks, $6, drugstore.com, both make these little magic wands that you break the top cotton swab off of and watch the removing solution drain into the bottom cotton swab. VoilĂ , it's ready to use.

Once you gently wipe away any smudges that may have occured while you were tossing and turning (sayonara, scary raccoon eyes!), grab your eye liner of choice and trace the line that's still vaguely there to refresh your look.

Like we said, we don't suggest that you continue wearing Monday's eye liner through Sunday, but it's okay to do one or two nights in a row. We won't tell.

Do you recycle your eye liner look?

Great Ex-Pecs-Tations: One Night at Hunk O’Mania

Within ten minutes of taking my seat by the bar at Hunk O'Mania, I was eye level with at least 15 different sets of pecs. Some were clad in the grey tank tops that belong to the waitstaff, working their way up to the main stage, and others in the black tanks that the dancers wear at this well-known New York male strip club. All of them seemed to be aware that I was a reporter. One of them introduced himself as Magnificent.

"What’s your name?" asked pecs.

"Anna."

"Oh, that’s my mother’s name!"

Two of the dancers will say this to me before the show begins. Is that in a handbook? They also all do this thing where they take your hand and put it under their shirt to feel their six packs (at a certain point, I gain a Helen Keller-esque pec-Braille shorthand and am able to also discern some actual twelve packs). Also, most of them have weak handshakes. Intentional? Are these moves all from the handbook? Where is this handbook? Can I read it?!

Another dancer tells me that an 82-year-old woman once drummed on his ass. Get it, girl.

***

Most of us are now familiar with the ups and downs of male stripping—drugs, sex, money, objectification, the camaraderie between dancers—artfully chronicled by Steven Soderbergh in "Magic Mike," but there are certain aural and olfactory cues you can’t get from watching a movie. The pervasive smell of at least 25 different kinds of cologne, for example. (It took two showers the next day to wash it off of me.) At one point, I ask one of the dancers what he is wearing. He smiles. “Just, you know, a sensual smell.”

One dancer, a James Deen lookalike, is a middle school teacher in Wayne, New Jersey by day. "Luckily, my kids are too young to come here," he adds, as if this isn't obvious.

"What did you teach them today?" I ask.

"Cell division."

The garrulous floor manager, with spiked hair and a body like a blazer-clad truck, comes over to introduce himself and offer a bottle of Champagne (I decline because I am Here For Work). He was a dancer at the club for eight years before he had a family and moved into the club administration. Soon, he declares, you might not have to stop at the ATM and break a 20 into singles before you attend Hunk’O’Mania—they plan on instituting in-house “Hunk Dollars,” credit that one can apply to drinks and dances if one is so inclined.

Outside, a dancer named Mozart—his real name, he tells me—who was cut from tonight’s show at the last minute, smokes a cigarette and works the door. He has dark eyes and slick black curls and looks, more or less, like a hybrid of a Ken doll and Aladdin.

Most of the men don't smoke, he tells me. It's not conducive to the insane amount of working out they have to do.

"So what are you expecting?" he asks me. "Something X-rated or something just raunchy?"

“I honestly have no idea.”

"It’s just fun, a little raunchy, nothing too serious. We really just try to give the women a good time."

***

Large groups of women, most of them dressed for clubbing and some obvious groups of bachelorettes, begin to fill out the rows of folding chairs. Meanwhile, the Hunk O’Mania dancers wait in the wings or in their dressing room, which they call their “castle.” (As in “Yo, what are you doing back here? This is our castle.” At which point this chastised reporter scurried back to her seat, drink in hand.)

On the way back to my chair, a dancer working the row of seated women casually ran his hand through my hair as I pass. I skip awkwardly back to my seat, flustered, and flag down one of the grey pecs.

"Yeahhhh, I’m gonna need that bottle."

***

The show begins an hour and a half later than it was billed to start, and every woman here is already shitfaced, including me. Their first routine is an exact copy of the “It’s Raining Men” umbrella dance in "Magic Mike, albeit not as tightly choreographed. Immediately afterwards, as the women scream their approval, the announcer says into the mic, “And here’s a little teaser for later.”

Before I can get my bearings, the lights change, “Harlem Shake” comes on, and the whole tone of the room shifts into sex-club lite. Dancers lead women into barely-private corners of the room and—well, dry-hump them. There’s really no other way to put it.

As a woman in the shadows directly in front of me grabs the ass of the dancer on top of her, I try not to look at them, but it seems impossible. I can feel myself turning bright red. Either my friend Mozart lied to me or my definition of "a little raunchy" is more like my mom's than I thought.

Some very helpful notes I took on the scene:

"grinding? Spanking? OMGGG whaaat"

A grey pec wanders around with electric blue Jell-O shots. Feeling way more like Charlotte York than I expected to, I notice that the couches are white. All things considered, is that really the best idea?

Half a bottle of Champagne later, the night has devolved into a semi-disorganized bacchanal, with a dancer holding a bachelorette upside down and effortlessly swinging her in the air like a baton. There is also an elaborate "Lion King" routine involving a lion head and not much else. That momentary baring of the dancers’ muscular backsides (they turn their backs to us, pop their super-muscular butts out of their Speedos and pop them back in like pale, muscled woodland creatures) also becomes more frequent as the night wears on. (Easy $1s, I guess.)

***

At some point, about 15 routines and a few mixed drinks later, a shirtless Mozart slides over—really, as in he leads with his pelvis and, like, oozes over in a way that a different (or perhaps slightly drunker) woman might find appealing—and puts my hands on his lower back. Dollar bills wave out of his thong, a pervier version of flag football.

"So," he says. "How can you write about this without experiencing it?"

"Um," I stammer. "I don’t have any cash."

Without missing a beat: "There’s an ATM around the corner."

"Ummmm." Something you should know if there’s ever a male stripper gyrating between your legs and looking directly into your eyes—turning him down is kind of like having to tell Mrs. Henike from down the street that you don’t have time to stop by for Snickerdoodles and milk after school. You really just don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

“Sorry,” I mumble, and he moves along, unfazed. The show ends, and I leave and go to Shake Shack.

The Verdict:

Subway ride: $2.50

Nervous pre-game drinks: $20

Ticket: $25 ($45 for VIP)

Experience: A grillion Hunk Dollars.

Why Date Night Is So Important

Between putting in long hours at work and catching up with friends, it can be hard to find solid quality time with your guy.

But keep this in mind next time you’re tempted to do a double-date to squeeze in everyone at once instead of going solo with your man: New research has found that couples who spend a good chunk time alone together once a week are three times more likely to say that they’re “very happy” in their relationship.

For their study, researchers from the University of Virginia’s National Marriage Project surveyed 1,600 couples and asked them about everything from relationship satisfaction to sex.

They discovered that couples who spend at least one night a week alone together say they’re more committed to their relationship than those who don’t hang out together as much. Oh, and couples who do those date nights are more than three times more likely to say that they’re “highly satisfied” with their sex lives.

Of course, recent research found that spending time with other couples is good for your relationship too, but be sure to spend enough solo time with your guy as well.

Bottom line: Whether you stay in and catch up on re-runs of 30 Rock or go out to a nice dinner, quality time with your man will keep both of you happy…and keep the sex amazing.

Guess Who We're Rooting For On Oscar Night...

The 2012 Oscar nominations were just announced and, naturally, the usual dramas popped up a lot on the list—“The Descendants,” “Moneyball,” “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”… .

They’re all great, but we were especially amped to see that “Bridesmaids,” one of our favorite flicks of the year, snagged two nominations. Melissa McCarthy nabbed a best supporting actress nod for her role as the hilarious, wise-cracking sister-in-law Megan, and the movie’s writers, Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, were nominated for best original screenplay.

Comedies rarely get love during awards season and they almost never win. But, like nominees always say, it’s just a thrill to be nominated. Even better, these noms prove that “Bridesmaids” was awesome. Before its release, some critics had doubts that a mostly-female cast could pull off a comedy that wasn’t just a blockbuster—it was actually good.

Guess they were wrong.

Kim Kardashian's hen's night... and wedding dress designer revealed!

Curvaceous Cosmo covergirl, Kim Kardashian has let it slip that A-list designer Vera Wang will be creating her wedding dress.

"Vera has been a close family friend for a long time and we had talked about this moment for years," Kim blogged. “When it came to picking my wedding dress designer she was the first person I thought of. No one designs gowns the way she does!”

The Kardashians certainly like to keep it in the family - Vera Wang also designed little sister Khloe's stunning wedding dress when she tied the knot with Lamar Odom.

Wedding plans have certainly kicked into overdrive for the August 20 ceremony, with Kim and her famous family partying over the weekend at Las Vegas hotspot, Tao. Kim celebrated her last days as a single woman in true hens night-style: drinking out of penis-shaped straws, downing shots and even getting a saucy lap dance from a dwarf. However, the 30-year-old star broke bridal tradition when she paid a surprise visit to fiance Kris Humphries who was celebrating his bucks at nearby club Lavo.

My night at the 2011 Fun, Fearless Female Awards!

My week of work experience at Cosmo wasn't exactly the typical week that many young, aspiring female journalists (like myself) get to experience.

On Wednesday night, I was privileged to attend the 2011 Cosmopolitan Fun, Fearless Female Awards which was hosted by loveable Shelley Craft at Catalina Rose Bay. It is the magazine’s annual celebratory event of the year, exposing some of the nation’s most exceptional role models and accomplished female figures. Whether they're a singer, actor, blogger or sportswoman; each nominee harnesses the essence of what it means to be a fun, fearless female.

My personal highlight? It would definitely have to be mingling with some of the nation’s favourite media personalities and celebrities who were more than happy to give me some hilariously entertaining interviews for my celebrity blog. Of course, when you speak to 2DAY FM’s Fifi Box, there are bound to be barrels of laughter; with glamorous Charlotte Dawson you learn a fashion tip or two; and with sassy songstress Jessica Mauboy you become motivated to unleash the inner bootylicious diva within you. This is exactly why these women are fun, fearless females themselves!

Whilst this event celebrated admirable women, don't worry - there was still plenty of male eye candy, with Stan Walker taking to the stage with three hot performances.

Ultimately, the winner of the Woman of the Year award was stellar actress Yvonne Strahovski, but the true victory of the night for us all was embracing the essence of what it means to be a fun, fearless female. Seize every opportunity, live life with confidence, make sure your frown is upside down and then you, my friend, are fun and fearless!

Jessica Mauboy: Saturday Night Diva

Jessica Mauboy stars in the Saturday Night Diva shoot in our February issue. Here’s the full interview with Jess…

Firstly, thankyou for being such a trooper on our shoot today [Jess came down with an ear infection the morning of the shoot, when she was still in Adelaide. Amazingly, she managed to catch a plane to Sydney at lunchtime, and stuck around to shoot the entire spread until 9pm].
It was amazing. Yeah, it was a crazy day. I was in Perth two days ago, then Brisbane and then Adelaide for a gig. All of a sudden my ears started aching. I used to have [ear infections] really bad when I was younger, [from] catching the planes. I think it was just all the pressure. But when I got here it was amazing. I’ve worked with [Richard Freeman] the photographer before so I knew it’d look great.

How did you feel about the 50s styling?
I was like “Wow, I’ve never done this before!” And it was something really different... getting into that character and that kind of style. At first I was uncomfortable with that look. I wasn’t quite sure at the beginning but then I looked in the mirror and I was like, “Actually, this looks good!”

That silhouette is so flattering, and you looked great.
I think it looks quite nice at the waist, and it was really elegant and pretty.

How would you describe your own style?
When I want to be, I can be quite edgy and chic. But most days I wear jeans and big tees. It’s very casual!

How about when you get glammed up?
I like to be very glamorous. I love short dresses. And I’ve been leaning towards the one-shoulder look as well. The one-shoulder dress. I’m quite hourglass, so fitted dresses are best – I don’t want anything hanging out.

Have you splurged on clothes since you’ve become successful?
Yes! I bought Prada heels. It’s probably the biggest, most expensive thing I’ve ever bought. They cost me, like, two grand. It was crazy. I’m really working hard right now. And they are amazing. They are a nude pump, with a really beautiful platform. A lovely heel. I wore them in the “Get ‘Em Girls” clip.

How is your new album (Get ‘Em Girls) different to Been Waiting?
This is a more... fun, more fearless [album]. It’s more mature than the last album. I had more control. I went to the United States on my own and I didn’t know anybody. I was just so intimidated by all these producers, because they had worked with so many of my idols. I was scared shitless, but I was firm and told them how I wanted it to sound, and what I wanted to say.

Is it hard to take control as a young artist?
At first. I remember doing the first album, and always saying yes. With this album it was different. But it was a difficult for me to actually speak up and say, “No actually, that doesn’t sound right”.

You worked with Snoop Dogg for this album…what was that like?
It was pretty intense and incredible. The first time he walked in I got all tingly and was like, “Oh my god, this is crazy.” I just remember shaking his hand and he said, “I heard the song and I love it. I love the beat and the lyrics.” After that he sat down and said, “Play the song back.” So I play the song, and when it finishes, I realised that he was asleep. I’m like “I’m in the room with Snoop, on my own and he is sleeping”. What do I do? I was almost going to laugh. And then he wakes up and walks out of the room for three or four minutes. He comes back and goes straight to the booth. And another guy walks in and then they start. He starts rapping and does the whole thing in one take. I was freakishly inspired by that.

What’s your biggest career highlight so far?
Definitely meeting Beyonce. I was able to tour with her, which was quite incredible to watch. I saw how she works and I got to have a chat with some people she works with, like her manger. He showed me the ins and outs and the ups and downs of touring. Watching her do eight shows back-to-back was incredible.

Check out Jessica in our Saturday Night Diva shoot, in the February edition of Cosmopolitan.
