The Hot New Wedding Night Wear: Spanx

Buying bridal lingerie is practically as ritualistic as choosing your wedding gown. However, many women are now forgoing the sexy stuff and opting for practical instead, swapping itty-bitty lacy things for control top, suck-you-all-in shapewear. (So not as sexy.)

At least that's what's happening in Great Britain where, across the country, Spanx now out-sells bridal lingerie at Debenhams department stories six to one. This wasn't always the case, according to one of the store's personal shoppers, who told told the Daily Mail that lingerie used to be way more popular among brides than it is now.

Honestly, I totally get it. While buying some sexy bridal lingerie is one of the things I'm really looking forward to pre-wedding, I sure as heck don't want traipse around wearing garters under my dress all day nor have lace-covered underwire poking into my underboob while I'm trying to bust a move on the dance floor. Plus, in a white dress, on a day when about 4,000 photos are being taken of me every second, I'd like to keep the inevitable stomach pooch at bay.

So, while I'd love to be able to rip off my gown when we get to our honeymoon suite and surprise my groom with the hottest bra-and-panty set he's ever seen in his life, I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen. Plus, as far I know, no one has sex on their wedding night anyway (and most of us have already had it, many times, with and without sexy lingerie).

I'm still going to buy something pretty to sexily commemorate getting married—but I don't think my guy's going to have the chance to see it until our honeymoon.
