Here's How Beyoncè's Backup Dancers' Butts Get So, So Glittery

One of the most mesmerizing VMA moments came courtesy of Beyoncé, obviously, and it was when she performed "Drunk in Love" with nine glittery butts behind her. How did those butts get so glittery?

Queen Bey's makeup artist Francesca Tolot explained that it just involved laying a bunch of dancers on the floor and dumping glitter all over them, basically.

Tolot did the behind-the-scenes shoot with Beyoncé two days before the VMAs. "We decided that when glitter is on a moving body, it's mesmerizing," Tolot said. "We wanted that part of the performance to have a sexy, naked-looking, magical effect, so that's why we covered the backup dancers in it."

Work from makeup artist Francesca Tolot's new book One Woman 100 Faces.

Tolot used the glitter effect from the VMAs in her book One Woman 100 Faces, and for the book, Beyoncé's shoot, and the backup dancers, Tolot used a special kind of very fine glitter. For Beyoncè, Tolot used purple, blue, and black to create a translucent mask that would still allow her expressions to shine through for a strong, dark, and edgy vibe. To apply it, Tolot created a glue-like substance with moisturizing properties (since it was going on Bey's face, after all) that the glitter would stick to. Next, she dipped her hands in the glitter and gently applied it to Beyoncè's face. To create the intricate detailing, she used a stencil and a small brush for precise application. For the eye area, she told Bey close her eyes tightly and used a brush to pat on the glitter.

Bey's VMA backup dancers' glitter application was a little more involved. For the VMA performance, her nine backup dancers for "Drunk in Love" had to be done long before they danced (since the team then turns their focus to Beyoncé — think of it like bridesmaids getting ready before the bride), meaning the makeup artists had to use a much stronger, glue-like substance than what they used on Beyoncè's face. After the makeup artists mixed the substance backstage, they either sprayed or sponged it onto the dancers' bodies while they were wearing the black bras and thongs they performed in. Next, they had the dancers lie on a fabric sheet on the floor, and then took the glitter in their hands and sprinkled it over the dancers' entire bodies. To ensure full coverage, they also spread the glitter on their bodies like you would lotion, packing it in with their hands, Tolot said. This process took about 15 to 20 minutes per dancer, or a total of three hours for all nine.

As for the dancers' faces, Tolot wanted them to still look like themselves, so she just added a fine layer of translucent glitter over them. When asked how one removes pounds of glitter (since getting one fleck off your face seems like it takes an eternity), Tolot said, "You just take a shower, and use a lot of soap and warm water — it just dissolves. The only problem is you might clog the shower."

Here's Miley Cyrus Naked on a Pile of Stuffed Animals

Miley Cyrus covers the fall issue of V magazine (fittingly titled the Rebel Issue) in a baby blue fur bathing suit by Fendi, which kind of makes her look like a really hot Muppet. You know, the kind that would make Miss Piggy worry that Kermit was about to leave her, if Kermit weren't such a nice, one-woman frog. Photographed by Chanel mastermind Karl Lagerfeld, it's not totally clear that this photo was styled for a magazine shoot or if this is just how Miley relaxes at home after a long day. Because if anybody likes to hang out on top of a bunch of plush toys while wearing a furry swimsuit, it's Miley.

Miley also Instagrammed a censored nude shot of herself on top of the same pile of stuffed animals (see below), ostensibly for the purpose of convincing people to subscribe to the magazine in time to get the new issue, but probably just to give people a better look at that cute crocodile. Either way, this seems like a very effective way to advertise.

In other Miley news, she sent Ariana Grande flowers after the VMAs, perhaps as some sort of "welcome to the pop star fold" gesture. Hopefully this is the beginning of a beautiful (and duet-heavy) friendship.

Here's How Jennifer Lawrence Is Maybe About to Make History

If Jennifer Lawrence wins the Oscar for her turn as a fast-talking, hilarious strumpet in American Hustle, it'll make her only the sixth person in history, and the first since Tom Hanks, to win the coveted statue in consecutive years. Very cool.

However, it appears Lawrence is doing everything you she can to not win that title. She's done no press and skipped important luncheons, and has even said she doesn't want more accolades. Upon winning the Golden Globe earlier this year, Jennifer Lawrence said, “I’m sorry I’m shaking so much — don’t ever do this again! It’s so scary!”

Here's the Second Picture Ever of North West

After returning from Paris, Kim Kardashian took to Insta to debut the second picture of baby North West, with the caption: "I missed waking up with my little [angel emoji]."

As you can see, she is still a human baby with Kanye cheeks and a pure, innocent heart. Swaddled in a white blanket, on a white fur rug, in space.

Here's Your Daily Dose of Miley Cyrus' Spectacular Ass

On the off chance you haven't seen enough of Miley Cyrus' underbutt this week: Consider this photo released by her label to promote her teddy bear and ecstasy-filled new album, "Bangerz."

It's something of an outtake from the album cover art, but with an extra dose of ASS. And while her bum was brutally likened to that of King of the Hill's Hank Hill during her VMA performance, we think it looks pretty great here. If we went to Pilates as much as this girl, we'd probably wear a blazer with no pants, too.

Hey, Cellphone Junkies: Here's How To Start A Digital Diet (And Stick To It)

If you're feeling sluggish and weighed down, it may be time to go on a diet. But we're not talking about cutting back on carbs and stocking up on protein bars: We're craving a digital detox. Step up to the challenge of temporarily shedding some of your digital devices for a healthier and happier you with the following quick tips. It won't hurt, we promise.

Set Limits

You wake up, and reach for your phone. You fall asleep with your iPad in your lap. Sounds familiar? It's time to set some limits. Whether it be not checking your email before your morning coffee at 9am, or no technology after 8pm, setting strict guidelines and sticking to them will help you tune out on a regular basis.

Make Friends/Family A Priority

Doesn't everyone dread the person at dinner who is always on their phone? Make sure it isn't you. Don't just make it a goal to stay of your phone when you're with your loved ones, make it a mandate. Turn it off for every sit-down meal, get together, and coffee, even if you think they'll "understand."

Write A Letter

If you've forgotten what a letter is, you're probably not alone. It's kind of like an email, but not quite. Make someone's day by taking some time out of yours to pen them a heartfelt note by hand, no matter how short, instead of shooting them a five second email and pressing send.

Leave It Be

Going to the gym ? Leave your phone in your car. Same goes for the grocery store. The goal here is not to have separation anxiety. We understand checking Twitter and texting your bestie makes breaks between reps and errands more bearable but give it a try. It's not as scary as you think.

Set A No-Connection Time Every Day

Set a hour aside every day for something to do that's completely non-digital. Whether it be reading, cleaning, or going for a walk, make sure your phone is turned off or on silent, your computer is out of reach, and you are out of a digital state of mind. If you think an hour sounds just cray-cray to you, begin slow: Start with thirty minutes and work your way up. Before you know it, you'll be craving your hour of tech-free time every day.

Work For It

Plug your phone in another room at bedtime. This way, not only will it not be the last thing you reach for at bedtime, it won't be the first thing you grab when you wake up. Problem solved.

Do A Digital-Free Day

Here's a real challenge: Spend an entire day without technology in hand. Turn off your phone, store away your iPad, and warn the appropriate parties you'll be out of touch. Make a to-do list of things without tech, or better yet, do all your favorite things sans your usual i-everything. Bonus points if you can go longer than one day.

Reward Yourself

You're starting to digitally detox, but like any good diet, you're spying an array of appliances and can feel yourself cracking. Before handheld devices start to look as appealing as a chocolate souffle, reward yourself for weaning away from your technology dependency with a non-digital activity. Our suggestions include a massage, trapeze lessons, or a manicure: Anything where you can't go grappling for your phone!

Here's How To Break Your Cyber Stalking Habits...Maybe

Some people have a cursing jar. I have a cyber creeping jar—and it's up to $273.

Exactly one month ago, I decided to make a career change and while I was at it, draft a laundry list of bad habits I vowed to break. First among them: My "cyber creeping" habit. I say "cyber creeping" as I felt it sounded a lot less, well, creepy, than calling it what it actually was: Cyber stalking.

Let me pref this by first saying I am not a girl to drunk dial. I don't rapid-fire text guys (in fact, I often forget to text them in the first place), and I don't awake in the morning from a night out regretting any Facebook messages or emails I sent in the middle of the evening. So overall: I am pretty under control with my actions.

But I creep. In fact, my friends have joked that my theme song is TLC's 1994 hit song titled just that ("Creep").

I blame this on the fact that I am quite good at it and as a damn good breaking news and entertainment reporter, have been required to dig dirt on persons of interest by profession.

The problem with this, however, is that I can become obsessive about it without realizing (can't we all?). My creeping included but was not limited to: Checking someone's Facebook that I shouldn't (ex-boyfriends, ex-crushes, former friends, frenemies, people I just don't like), searching for people on Twitter I don't even follow just to see what they're doing (see above categories for who this includes), Googling people for non-work related purposes. Things that every girl has done, even if they aren't always willing to admit it.

It went so far that sometimes I'd forget the trivial shit I've viewed just ten minutes before and find myself re-checking things out of habit. So I decided to put a stop to it. Do I really need to know where my ex-boyfriend ate a burger last night? What my ex-BFF from three years ago thought of this weeks "Girls"? No. Of course not.

I put an empty Honest Tea bottle in my room last month, and every time I "crept," for four weeks, I had to put a dollar in the bottle. Every. Single. Time. I also never keep cash on me (it's on the laundry list of bad habits to break), so this required a higher number of ATM trips than I was used to. Especially since the dollars bills went more quickly than I want to admit.

I honestly thought I might hit about $75. That'd be a normal, not THAT creepy amount. But $273!? That means I was a creep an average of 9.75 times per day!

The thing is, I think due to the rise of social media, "creeping" is inevitable. Whether it's through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, whatever, we find ways to get the knowledge we want. But what is just utililizing the tools in front of us for entertainment purposes and what is downright obsessive?

Even though my creep number has me hanging my head (9.75! Someone take my iPhone away!), I can't say I'll really stop anytime soon. It's just too addictive of a habit. I may have to switch those singles for fives to really break the bank as punishment. At least some charity will be happy.

Are you a cyber creep? And would you ever try a cyber creeping jar?
