10 Tips for Getting Longer, Thicker, Sexier Hair

Longer Hair:

Remember Rapunzel? Once her braid was long enough, she tossed it down to the prince and girl was outta there. Today, she'd be in trouble. Between dye jobs, stress, and styling, growing hair can be a beyotch. To the rescue: these accelerators and illusionist tricks.

In-Shower Secret

Shampoo matters! "Hair follicles are only 1.25 mm below the surface of the scalp, so cleansing ingredients really can reach them," says Elizabeth Cunnane Phillips, a hair scientist at the Philip Kingsley Trichological Clinic, in New York. Look for formulas enriched with vitamins E and B5, zinc, iron, and copper — they increase keratin production, the building block of hair.

Game-Changing Treatment

Instead of having your stylist trim ratty ends, find one who offers the Brazilian Blowout Professional Split-End Repair (about $25, brazilianblowout.com). Amino acids and seaweed extracts bond tattered fibers (like a liquid Band-Aid) for up to a month.

No-Fail Styling Trick

Ditch the round brush. "The barrel curls hair under or out, creating the look of shorter strands," says NYC stylist Nunzio Saviano. Instead, use a paddle brush. It helps ends lie flat, so they look longer.

Cure-All Cut

Opt for a blunt style with either full or sideswept bangs. Alone, the crisp ends create an elongated effect, "but the contrast between your fringe line and your ends amplifies the effect," says Saviano.

Right Hue for You

"Hair that's slightly deeper at the roots and lighter at the ends not only looks on-trend but also creates the illusion of length," says colorist Charles Baker Strahan.

Thicker Hair:

Precious few are born with luscious, shampoo-ad hair. Steal these tricks and transform fine, limp strands into sexy volume.

In-Shower Secret

"The same ingredients that make your skin amazing can work wonders with your hair," says Dennis Gross, MD, a dermatologist in New York City. Two of his top picks: peptides, which stimulate hair growth, and salicylic acid, which sloughs the scalp, so debris doesn't block follicles. (Find both in Dr. Dennis Gross Root Resilience Strengthening Shampoo, $38, sephora.com.)

Game-Changing Treatment

There's fine hair, and there's thinning hair — a condition that affects a whopping 30 million women in the U.S. The only FDA-approved drug for treating it is Minoxidil, once found only in Rogaine but now in Pantene Expert Hair Regrowth Treatment too. It preserves the hair you have and helps spur new growth.

No-Fail Styling Trick

"Dry shampoo and volumizer are nonnegotiables," says Baker Strahan, who swears by a cocktail of Herbal Essences Naked Volume Dry Shampoo and Volumizing Soufflé ($5 each, drugstores). "They temporarily increase the width of strands plus help them stand up at the root."

Cure-All Cut

A cut — specifically one that involves long layers as well as a few around the face — is actually key to a fuller look. "Layers create a stacked effect, allowing more air and movement and therefore fullness between sections," says celeb stylist Adir Abergel.

Right Hue for You

Fake natural-born thickness with thin highlights. "Bleach causes individual strands to expand, so they feel and look thicker," says Baker Strahan. "The mix of light and dark pieces also creates more depth — key to the full-body look."

Why You May Soon Be Getting ID'ed for Buying Nail Polish Remover

Turns out acetone nail polish remover is the new Claritin D when it comes to making meth. So much so that CVS stores in New England are starting to ask for identification when customers purchase it, as well as putting a limit on how many bottles of remover they can buy.

The drugstore chain mandated that one must be 18 and have a valid state ID or driver's license to buy nail polish remover. According to the New York Post, CVS issued this statement to back up their plan of action (that you may or may not think is bogus): “Because acetone is an ingredient used in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine, we recently implemented a policy that a valid ID must be presented to purchase acetone-containing products such as nail polish remover. Our policy also limits the sale of these products in conjunction with other methamphetamine precursors and is based on various regulations requiring retailers to record sales of acetone.”

WPRI.com, a Rhode Island news site (via the New York Post), also revealed that the policy has been rolled out to CVS stores across Southern New England, but will it spread cross country?Only time will tell. Just don't be suprised if the next time you're itching to take that Essie Mademoiselle off your nails, a cashier asks you to whip out your ID first.

Getting Your Vagina on the Ball: Inside My First Sexual Fitness Class

It’s Sunday afternoon and I’m at the gym grinding my crotch and anus into a medicine ball. I can explain. Today, I am taking a private exercise class called Women’s Sexual Fitness taught by 57-year-old chiropractor and personal trainer Edythe Heus. For the next 50 minutes, I am going to do things to a bouncy ball that would have me arrested in most states (definitely Texas). The point of the class is to use your lower abdominals to awaken sexual energy and strengthen orgasms. It's Pilates Gone Wild.

It all started back in 1997, when Edyth was living in Dana Point, Calif. working as a private chiropractor for Major League Baseball players. After a few months of training something strange happened. “One of the players came into my office and asked, ‘Am I supposed to feel really horny after doing these ab exercises?”

Edythe was secretly relieved that she wasn’t the only person who had a mean case of the tingles after training. “Then another client asked me the same thing, and another, and finally after ten people came to me with the same question, I couldn’t ignore it anymore. I was like, ‘The universe is telling me something!’ So I decided to start my own program.”

Although she knew she was onto something good, she didn't unveil the program right away. Afraid that teaching a class with an erotic slant might discredit her as an athletic trainer, she kept her sexual fitness program under wraps. Now that she owns three gyms, has over 100 trainers working for her and a dedicated client base, she's ready to share her expertise. "I want people to perceive this class, not as anything pornographic, but as a natural, essential part of health, wellness and personal fulfillment."

On the gym's website the class is described as, "a 50 minute class for all women wishing to awaken or expand their sexual fitness and energy to give rise to improved pelvic floor tone, sexual pleasure, enhanced athleticism, abdominal tone and feminine empowerment."

I'm sold. I enroll in the class and head to Revolution in Motion gym in New York City. Before I leave the house, though, I call to ask about the dress code. What exactly does one wear to a sexual fitness class? "Just bring nipple tassles and a hula hoop," the receptionist said. No, she didn’t say that, she just told me to wear comfortable yoga clothes.

When I arrive at the gym, Edythe is there to greet me. Standing under five feet tall, with miniature hands and feet and a pixie haircut, she looks like Tinker Bell in Sporty Spice drag. In a form-fitting tank-top, I notice her sculpted arms, toned back and flat abs, there's not a wrinkle in sight. If I look that good at 57, I'm throwing myself a party.

"There is another class going on at the same time as ours," she explains. "So we have to share the room." That means that while Edythe shows me how to work my bone-zone another trainer five feet away is teaching students how to blast their quads. Awkward.

The first exercise Edythe has me do is bounce up-and-down on a ball. It's kind of weird at first because we are both silently bouncing in unison and staring at each other. It feels like we're in some surreal performance art piece. I'm not sure if I should smile or say something. Thankfully, Edythe rescues me with some instructions. “I want you to feel your entire vagina on the ball, really press it on there.” Then she stares at my privates and asks, “Are you feeling anything?”

I make eye contact with one of the men doing calf-lifts on the other side of the gym and get red.

“Well...are you?”

“Yes,” I shame-mumble to the floor. “It feels kinda tingly.”

“Great! That’s just what we want!” She beams. “We are trying to move energy from your vagina to the top of your head. Tell me when you’re head is buzzing.”

After a couple more minutes, I start to relax and have some fun. “What’s so weird about two adult women doing synchronized erotic bouncing, anyway?” I ask myself.

After we both get mildly light-headed, we switch to another move. Straddling the ball we slowly move our hips from side-to-side. Within five seconds I realize something new about myself: I LOVE WORKING OUT! I am totally turned on and I even feel my abs getting stronger. By this point both Edythe and I are feeling way more relaxed and silly. We start cracking dirty jokes and acting like old drinking buddies.

The next exercise is on the floor. With our backs on the ground we lift up our hips and place our feet on the ball. Our legs are open wide in a diamond shape, stretching out the groin.

“This is a good exercise to prepare you for missionary-style sex and cunnilingus because it helps you to relax with your legs open.” “Oh, don’t worry Edythe, I know how to relax in this position.” We high-five.

After a couple more floor exercises and squats we are ready for the final cool down. The last exercise of class is maybe the best thing I've ever done. You just drape yourself onto the ball and rock back and forth until you're in a deep trance.

By the time class is over I feel like I've had a full body massage— just completely relaxed and totally horny. As I gather my things to leave Edythe calls out to me, "Good luck, Rose! I hope you have sex tonight!" Me, too Edythe, me too.

I turned to look around the studio one more time before leaving. I am sort of sad to part ways with the medicine ball after everything we've been through. “I’ll never forget you," I whisper to the used piece of gym equipment and then turn and walk away.

Is Twitter The Worst Way Ever to Discover Your Getting a Divorce? Ask Porsha Williams

Talk about a case of social media being your worst enemy.

Newest cast member of The Real Housewives of Atlanta Porsha Williams admitted to Bravo's Andy Cohen that rumors that she found out in the press that her hubby, former pro football stud Kordell Stewart, had filed for divorce were true—sort of.

Williams, who is bubbly and beautiful and nine years Stewart's junior, told Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that she found the news on Twitter, tweeted from multiple media outlets, including TMZ who broke the news, after a phone call from her sister telling her to scour the social media hub.

"I thought,'This is just a crazy joke!' Porsha told Cohen, who is basically like the Housewives Messiah. But Williams soon found out her husband of less than two years had indeed filed for a divorce. "I asked my husband... had he filed, and just a long story short, I felt very disappointed and let down."

No duh. Who wouldn't if their hubby filed for divorce and they found out in 140 characters or less? It's like being broken up with via telephone in 5th grade but way, way worse.

I bet Taylor Swift is kind-of-sort-of envious because this would make for really good song fodder and it beats the time Joe Jonas dumped her via a 27-second phone call and she told everyone about it.

Really, though, this is slightly frightening. It's one thing to get your daily horoscope on Twitter, and even use it as your primary news source. But when you are finding out about your own divorce on the thing, it takes it to a whole new level. Let's hope this is something reserved strictly for celebrities (and perhaps, reality stars). It's bad enough when I have to see announcements of ex-boyfriends getting engaged on my feed.

Then again, that's what the block feature is for.
