33 Images That Show the Insane Evolution of the Victoria's Secret Catalog

Victoria's Secret was founded in 1977 by a guy named Roy Raymond who wanted a place where he could buy lingerie for his wife without feeling like a perv. A year later, Victoria's Secret was a hit, and Raymond launched a mail-order business with the first-ever Victoria's Secret catalog. Here's a look back at the brand's epic evolution.

The Late '70s

The first catalogs were inspired by Victorian boudoirs.

The Early '80s

A couple years in, the catalogs had a softer, more romantic look.

This poor model is clearly suffering from too much hanky-panky on her mind. That, or a migraine.

So. Much. Side-eye!

The Mid to Late '80s

Under new ownership starting in 1982, the Victoria's Secret catalog started to look like the pages of Cosmopolitan magazine, with plenty of shirtless men mixed in, along with the occasional nip slip and scrunchie.

OMG, it's Uma Thurman!

The '90s

Good-bye, dudes! Hello, Tyra (and all the Angels)!

The '00s and Today

By the early 2000s, the Victoria's Secret catalog was known almost as much for clothing and swimwear as it was for lingerie, featuring affordable versions of all the hottest '00s trends, like pastel velour track suits and lace-up leopard blouses.

Would You Pay This Gobsmacking Amount of Money to Attend the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show?

Tickets for the Victoria's Secret's annual fashion show, which will be held in London for the first time ever this year, are reportedly selling for £9,995 ($16,663). Also want to go to the after party? That ups your cost by $3,000. For a total of $20,000. To see some models in wings walk on some glitter and then have champagne and a tuna skewer in the same nightclub as them after.

Cornucopia Events is selling these tickets. As part of one of their VS show *~SpEcIaL pAcKaGeS*~ they can also put you up at a fancy hotel, drive you to and fro in a limo, and make you restaurant reservations somewhere cLaSsy*~.

They're charging $20,000 for all this, the Telegraph reports, "to keep out the riff raff." Though, who are they fooling? The Situation can obviously afford this.

For those of us who are not the Situation, and for whom attending is not even a remote possibility, the show will be televised on CBS.

The Moment You've Been Waiting For: Win a $1000 Shopping Spree at Victoria's Secret!

To celebrate the biggest-ever launch of their new fragrance, Victoria's Secret is hooking up one lucky Cosmo girl with a $1000 gift card…and there’s no reason why that girl couldn't be you. Just think—with a grand to spend, you’ll be able to pick up enough of VS’s signature goddess-y beauty products, sexy little underthings, and chic loungewear to rule you Instagram selfies all summer...and beyond.

Speaking of selfies—the fresh, bold, fruity fragrance, Victoria, is meant to capture everything that is fabulous about being a sexy young thing, with bold apple/berry top notes and a deeper, more sensual base described as crème brûlée. (Yum.) It also contains VS's signature, trademarked rose blend, an up-to-the-minute update on the classic scent. We especially love the super-luxe bottle. Look for the fragrance launching online 7/18 and in stores 7/30.

To enter to win the $1000 prize, tweet or re-tweet @Cosmopolitan @victoriassecret #ShoppingSpree. Tell us your favorite Victoria's Secret beauty product, what you'd buy with a $1000, or why you love VS. (Make sure you follow both Twitter accounts, too.)

The contest ends July 30 at 11:59 p.m. EST, so get your tweet on now—you can enter up to five times. Check out the official contest rules here.

Former Victoria's Secret Model Kylie Bisutti Regrets Disrespecting Her Husband, God

Jesus take the wheel. (Or the push-up bra.) Former Victoria's Secret model and verrry current Christian Kylie Bisutti, who won an Angel modeling competition in 2009, denounces the company in her upcoming tell-all I'm No Angel, reports The Frisky.

Bisutti, who didn't seem to realize that Victoria's Secret was a lingerie line before winning the contest, realized that she was "being paid to strip down and pose provocatively to titillate men. It wasn’t about modeling clothes anymore; [she] felt like a piece of meat."

I suppose that it could be true, albeit unlikely, that Bisutti wasn't aware that the VS company is primarily known for releasing catalogs that get passed around a bus full of 7th grade boys' grubby hands.

Still, you gotta wonder if this was her endgame when she signed up for the contest. After all, she had to know what she was getting into. It reminds me of Christian blonde Shannon from America's Next Top Model, returning to the All-Star cycle even after she knew that she'd be urged to break her nudity clause again... Maybe I'm just being cynical, but I kind of assume all these gals just want reality shows.

And so, Bisutti continues, she dropped to her knees and recited a prayer familiar to most, if not all of us. (I do this every day!)

"I was in my bedroom and dropped to my knees and started to pray. 'God, why did you have me win the Victoria’s Secret Angel competition if it was going to make me feel this way? I’m not honoring my husband. I just want answers!'"

Because this is clearly the first issue the Almighty would deal with before moving on to third-world famine, violence and war crimes.

Anyway, a pissed-off Victoria's Secret has responded with quite a different sequence of events in their statement:

"[Bisutti] was never a Victoria’s Secret “Angel” as defined by the terms of our Angel model contract. And contrary to Ms. Bisutti’s claims, she was never offered any subsequent modeling contracts or opportunities with Victoria’s Secret despite her multiple appeals for further work. She has repeatedly fabricated her work experience with Victoria’s Secret – including a relationship that simply did not exist."

Victoria's Secret Makeup Nail Collection Has Arrived

Guess what girls? Victoria's Secret is finally launching a polish line. We know, we're super stoked too.

But since it's not in stores until January 29, here's the inside scoop:

With a range of 20 gorgeous shades—from blushing pinks to bold metallics—the Victoria's Secret Makeup Nail Collection won't disappoint when it comes to on-trend shades. Even better, each lacquer is way affordable—we're talking $10.

And did we mention that even their supermodels can’t get enough? The two shades they're loving: Backstage, a super-glittery, standout pink and Bombshell Pink, VS's signature shade.

Long story short: We can't wait to get our hands on a bottle of our very own and know you're feeling the same way. But since we have a little time to kill until next Tuesday, we suggest setting a reminder on your smartphone to visit a VS store near you on the 29th, and then dream of the shade (smoky metallic purple, perhaps?) you're going to paint on stat.

Then, and most importantly, let us know which one you chose and how you like the new line!

The 2011 Victoria's Secret parade

It's the annual event starring the world's hottest women in nothing but their smalls and some serious wings. This year's show featured Jay-Z, Kanye, Adam Levine and Nicki Minaj pumping out some tunes while Miranda, Alessandra, Adriana, Doutzen and co. strutted their stuff on the glittery catwalk. Sigh - how is it humanely possible that there are women that smokin' hot?Launch Gallery Get ADOBE FLASH PLAYER
