Our Boyfriends Are All Wearing the Same Shirt

Hi there. I noticed your boyfriend is wearing the J. Crew gingham button-down shirt. So is my boyfriend. Our boyfriends are wearing the same shirt. Could your boyfriend go home and change? It's kind of awkward to be walking around with our boyfriends dressed like twins. I'd ask my boyfriend to change, but he only owns J. Crew gingham shirts, so it would be kind of pointless, haha. Right? Boyfriends! Oh, your boyfriend also only owns J. Crew gingham shirts? Well, this is a situation. No, not the Situation! He doesn't even wear a shirt. And when he does, it's not a J. Crew gingham shirt because he's nobody's boyfriend. This is a boyfriends-only shirt. Look at this guy:

I bet that woman is his girlfriend because he's wearing a J. Crew gingham shirt, which officially means he's taken. See? Look at this happy J. Crew gingham family:

Oh my god, they are so happy in their J. Crew gingham. I bet you and your J. Crew gingham boyfriend are that happy. You look really happy. My boyfriend spends a lot of time at work and sometimes he even works on weekends, which drives me crazy, but I know he loves me because he's always wearing his J. Crew gingham shirt. Here he is on his way to work:

Doesn't he look good in J. Crew gingham? Oh and look, just catching up on emails while grabbing some coffee! LOL, my boyfriend's so crazy.

Anyway, yeah, he works really hard, but he's always down to party. We love just going to bars and people-watching.

It's just great to see so many boyfriends in J. Crew gingham shirts out and about, you know? Really, like, seeing and being seen. Not, like, stuck at home with the old ball-n-chain, amiright?! Haha, you get it. Anyway, really great seeing you! Tell your boyfriend my boyfriend says hi.

I am no stranger to Cosmo's sometimes mind-blowing, sometimes terrifying, often both, sex tips. I ate a doughnut on my boyfriend's penis, for fuck's sake. I'm game to put pretty much anything in or on me and/or in or on my boyfriend. We are an adventurous duo, my friends.

So when my editor sent me the infamous scrunchie tip, my body was READY, and my brain was ALMOST READY. I mean, nine times out of ten, Cosmo is correct when it comes to boning, and so I was willing to put myself in its (her?) pervy hands.

The sex tip: "If you've kept up with your Cosmo sex tips, you may remember reading that a scrunchie can be used on a man's member to help him maintain an erection. Now we're upping the ante and taking that technique in a new direction. Start by stacking six scrunchies on top of each other over his package. Then remove them one by one using your lips and tongue. As each piece is removed, it releases a little bit of pressure in his penis, which will make his orgasm more intense when it happens. Plus, the movement of the fabric will feel wild on his skin."

So yeah, that's basically two sex tips. We've got the one where you put a scrunchie around your man's dong so that he has an erection forever and maybe goes to the ER, and the one where you stack six (yes, SIX) scrunchies around your man's dong so he has to go to the ER even sooner. I decided to try both and let's just pray I have a boyfriend tomorrow!

The Location: This enormous chair we call megachair because it's basically the size of a couch and therefore perfect for doing it.

The Music: Patsy Cline because this ish is crazy.

The Mood: Gonna be honest: TERRIFIED.

The Act: First, I had to procure some scrunchies. This is not because I'm too cool to own scrunchies, this is because I wouldn't want to use a scrunchie once it had been on my boyfriend's penis. NO OFFENSE, BOYFRIEND'S PENIS. (Some offense.) I went to Walgreens and bought a pack of multicolored, fabric-covered hair elastics and resisted telling the cashier what I was using them for. In fact, I was feeling a little weird about it so I made sure to tell the checkout guy that I was buying these scrunchies for the specific purpose of putting them in my hair. On my head. I couldn't be clear enough.

When I got home, my boyfriend and I reclined onto megachair and I pulled out the scrunchies. DUN DUN DUN. I swear his erection made an instant retreat when he saw them. I slid one on (the red one; if I was going to do this, I was going to do this in correct ROY G BIV order) and he said it didn't feel like much. Then I doubled that shit up like I was doing a middle school-style high pony tail and he winced in pain. I felt bad that there was no in-between pressure but if we were gonna choose from no sensation to slight pain, pain it was. I commenced with the scrunchie hand job, all while he whimpered in pain and I felt like I was giving a handie to some weirdo who wears scrunchies on his dick. I asked him if he was enjoying it and the answer was a resounding no. MY RESPONSE? OK! MORE SCRUNCHIES, THEN! I'm the worst.

The BF was not pleased as I slid the scrunchies on in rainbow order. It was pretty, but apparently also pretty painful. I felt like I was playing dress up with a malformed Ken doll, so I kinda enjoyed it. Then, because I was supposed to have some fun with the scrunchies with my hand and mouth, I just slid them back off again and was like "uh, what's next?" so I repeated the entire procedure. At this point, we were just straight up laughing. As I pulled the orange one off a second time, my boyfriend yelped in pain. I'd gotten a hair. With that, he screamed, "Get them off! Get them off!" and the rest of our sexy scrunchie sex romp was just me trying to remove the offensive hair ties as gently as possible while he held his breath. SO SEXY.

The Verdict: Total bust; we didn't even do it. This sex tip led to no sex; GOOD JOB, SEX TIP. We just ordered a half-ton of Chinese delivery food and watched Ghostbusters and then went to bed at a sensible hour.

Yes, this particular sex tip is a failure but that doesn't mean that I won't approach my next Cosmo sex tip with aplomb. These wacky broads rarely let me down, and so I'm ready to take it next level next time. Just no more scrunchies, OK? (In fact, I'm burning the ones I currently own. I can't even look at you, scrunchies!)

28 Reasons Girlfriends Are Actually the Best Boyfriends

1. They always have that thing that you need when you need it. Like Chapstick. Or a Tampon.

2. They're always willing to try something new with you. Like trapeze artistry at that new place by the pier, or whatever. Because looking like a big idiot doesn't stop your girlfriends from doing anything with you.

3. They'll bring you little presents just because. If your girlfriend saw a pen with cat ears on it and thought of you, you bet your shit she bought it for you and gave it to you at brunch.

4. They'll keep your secrets when you need them to, but will also tactfully spread the word for you about breakups so you don't have to. Men only communicate via grunting, as we all know, which makes them ineffective transmitters of news about anything at all.

5. You can talk about cramps and they get it. And will not mock you for it when you do not have cramps.

6. You can text entirely in emojis and they understand it all. A man using emojis is like a fish trying to use a pen. It's just impossible.

7. Their emoji-less texts are thorough. No one-sentence answers here! Girls text like they're writing books and it is GREAT.

8. You can be a total mess in front of them and they'll never judge you. Like that time you nonchalantly threw up on yourself in the back of a cab all over your fur vest with your crush sitting to your left and your BFF to your right, and she then helped you clean it up so said crush didn't notice. (Sidenote: he would also have to be as intoxicated to not notice, but whatever — your bestie is, well, the best.)

9. They have their shit together when you do not. It's a law of girlfriendship that when you're a mess, she is fine and ready to take care of you; when she is a mess, you are fine and ready to take care of her.

10. They know how to make a plan when it comes to ladies' night. Guys, take notes because it drives girls UP THE WALL when you can't decide on a time or place to meet up. (If there was an emoji of a girl pulling her hair out, I'd insert it here.)

11. They're always down for a boozy brunch. Grapefruit ginger mimosas all around!

12. They love to go out and dance — and actually know how to do it. And they wear sparkly get-ups, so you're not the only fool fist-pumping in a sequin minidress.

13. They dress impeccably. Let's be honest, your favorite clothes porn is whatever your best friend has on. #OOTD

14. They take the best pictures with your smartphone. And they know that you need to tap the screen to make the camera focus first.

15. You don't have to think twice when you respond to their texts. Because they're not judging you (see no. 8) — or trying to date you, so you can just be you.

16. They text you back right away. Unlike men who see multiples movies (or ACT like they're seeing multiple movies) before texting you back.

17. They rarely ever bail on plans. Because it's just not in their DNA.

20. You can watch a tear-jerker kind of movie and don't have to worry about silent crying the entire time. Because chances are your BFF is crying just as hard as you are.

21. They remember when you have an important meeting and call to give you a you-can-do-it pep talk beforehand. They also can't wait to hear how it went immediately after.

22. They'll give you the same endless advice about guys, work, etc., until you don't need their advice anymore about said issue. And they'll do it with a smile on their face no matter how many times you make the same mistakes.

23. They know exactly what to get you for your birthday without you having to leave hints (i.e. magazine clippings) around the house/apartment. You: "OMG, you got me a Paris necklace?!!! I love Paris." Her: "I know."

24. If you breakup with your real boyfriend, they don't ask questions and are at your place in seconds with wine, tissues, and Ben and Jerry's on hand ready to listen to every single detail. They already know your favorite wine and B&J flavor (Half Baked Frozen Yogurt). Oh, and that you like Puff's tissues with lotion because they don't make your nose red.

25. They're genuinely happy for you when you do finally find a significant other. Because even if they haven't found the man of their dreams yet, seeing you happy will not only make them happy, it will give them hope.

26. They don't make you watch sports. Instead, they make you watch shows you haven't had time to watch yet. You then become totally addicted to said show because your BFF has the same taste in life as you.

27. You can totally call them at 7:45 a.m. just to talk about whatever happened last night. And they pick up because they truly give a shit.

28. They like kale just as much as you. It's the new spinach, and if you can't get behind that then you can't sit with us.

Your Boyfriend's Ex Probably Isn't Crazy

Right now there is a fascinating, unsettling piece by Natasha Vargas-Cooper on The Awl about her boyfriend’s unstable ex-girlfriend, who they slapped with a restraining order after she threatened them repeatedly, broke into their house in the middle of the night and slapped Vargas-Cooper. The ethics of the piece are sort of murky, as they tend to be when a professional writer maligns a person who can't speak for themselves in the essay, but Vargas-Cooper was thrown into a terrifying situation that tested her own limits for hatred and violence, which she frankly admits. At one point, she wonders how complicit her boyfriend (who, overall, she writes about lovingly and blamelessly) was in his relationship with the woman — how much he fed into her craziness.

Fortunately, most of us haven’t been in a situation as extreme as Vargas-Cooper’s, but you frequently do hear about how “crazy” a guy’s ex-girlfriend was. “Yeah, she was really crazy,” he casually says, munching on a cheese fry. “Reeeeeeally nuts. Glad I’m out of that relationship!”

This is easy to believe, mostly because it's also fun to believe — to report back to your friends about his crazy ex, to check her out on Facebook and talk shit on her, and to have the consistent inner monologue that you’re so much better than that psycho-bitch he used to go out with. It’s the reason that cheated-on and cheated-with women often turn on each other instead of attacking the guy who screwed them both over. Shitting on other women where men are concerned is sort of primal and instinctive to a lot of us, and it’s deeply unappealing. We’re well past the hunting and gathering days.

The core of my argument is that the concept of “crazy,” like the concept of “needy,” is relative, and I think we all know that. Before the stalking and harassment transpired, Vargas-Cooper had heard that the woman was “crazy,” but writes, “I [knew] the value ‘crazy’ has in the currency of gossip. I know it’s a term most often applied to a female partner when she falls below the expectations of a group.”

Frankly, short of true restraining-order-for-assault craziness, oftentimes the labels of “crazy” or “needy” are applied to women who simply ask for more than the guys they’re hooking up with are willing to give them. This could range from “text me 70 times a day” to “call me on my birthday” to “acknowledge my presence when we are at a party together.” There is a very good Jezebel post about this by Tracy Moore, which lances an (old! Embarrassing!) Cosmo piece about how not to be “That Girl.” Meaning how not to come across as needy or crazy by his definition, not yours. And we all know that basing your actions entirely on how he may or may not perceive them is the primrose path to a big pile of shit.

And the end of relationships are often heated and passionate on both sides. When your relationship with this guy ends, he could be eating cheese fries with some other girl and talking about how crazy you are. As far as I'm concerned, when a guy calls his ex crazy, it should be a red flag. It's déclassé to talk shit on your ex to your current romantic prospect in the early stages of a relationship — besides, you should have more interesting, positive conversation topics than ragging on some woman who's not even at the table — and it may just reflect more on him than her.

How Taylor Swift's Boyfriends Are All Of Our Boyfriends

Joe Jonas. Your seventh grade boyfriend and first kiss, in the very back row of Ice Age 2, while his best friend Mike Kaminsky threw Skittles in front of the projector and laughed so loud he got shushed by nearby theatergoers. Almost all of your dates were group hangs, even the semi-formal, for which you missed the Very Special Episode of Boy Meets World where Shawn’s dad dies. He passed you a breakup note during Social Studies the following Monday.

Taylor Lautner. At first, you could hardly believe he liked you. He was so popular! His chest was so defined! He wore Livestrong bracelets! He had the square head of a true jock! But as you rose in the ranks of high school popularity as his girlfriend, you realized you were bored. He was sweet, but your texts and conversations lacked any passion or urgency, and half the time you hung out in person, you just sat there and watched him play video games with his friends. You broke up right before college, but not before losing your virginities to each other, probably during a Ben Folds Five song.

Ed Sheeran. You met in college, when he smoked too much weed and you hadn’t figured out how to do your hair yet. You talked about everything — philosophy, books, music, relationships — and had never been more comfortable with a guy your age. Eventually, through mutual friends, you hear murmurs that he’s in love with you. You ignore it, which isn’t the most mature option, but you don’t feel the same way and you don’t want to lose the friendship. Even when he and you start dating other people, it’ll always be there, that grain of weirdness.

John Mayer. When you met him you’d just gotten out of college, and you had one of those jobs where you had to go out in 20 degree weather to pick up an assortment of bagels and cream cheese for people with higher-paying jobs who weren’t as smart as you. He challenged you on something in a crowded bar, and was ultimately right, and even though he was kind of a dick about it, you were immediately infatuated. You hooked up, on and off, despite the repeated signs that not only was he not interested, but he was in no shape to be in a relationship, period. Because you were depressed for other reasons, you projected everything onto him: If he didn’t love you, it was your fault, and you needed to be better. You ignored more stable, sweet guys. You were obsessed with other girls he might have been hooking up with. Every strong, feminist bone of your body rebelled against being so pathetic and lovesick, and it was like you were at odds with your own self. It was a very unhappy time.

Jake Gyllenhaal. After the last time, you decided the next guy had to have his shit together, and this guy did. He had a great apartment, one of those super classy knife sets, a dog, and was the best on-paper guy you’d ever been with. He sometimes told you to “calm down” when you got upset, which alternately frustrated and appealed to you. Ultimately, you were just in such different places in life that you had to say goodbye.

Conor Kennedy. You had a summer fling with a rich boy, which might have been the first time your life overlapped with something that would be in Sweet Valley High. While he came from a dysfunctional family, to say the least, he came with a lot less baggage than most guys. After awhile, lying around on a yacht wearing all-white and quoting Family Guy lost its mystique, even though it did make some lovely Instagram pictures.

Harry Styles. It had been awhile since you found a guy who could keep up with you, and he was a great other half of a power couple. You were both kicking ass in the same industry, and you looked great together. However, he liked to go out. A lot. And it wasn’t like you were an introvert, but there were some days when you couldn’t afford to be hungover in the morning, or didn’t feel like waiting outside a club with a bunch of shivering models. When you broke up, he went around telling all his friends that you were no fun. But it's not true, you are fun! Staying in and baking and watching Titanic is more fun than ordering bottle service and yelling over bad music to people you talk shit about behind their backs.

Meredith. Friends 'till the end.

Guinness Is For Cheating Boyfriends Says Boozy Study

While I could have sworn the culprit would have been Natty Ice, beverage of choice for Welcome Week frat house parties everywhere, a study by the UK's Illicit Encounters (via HuffPo) looked into which brewskis were most favored by unfaithful men. As it turns out, Guinness and Corona were the top two beers of choice for dirty cheating scrubs followed by Peroni San Miguel and Budweiser.

Oddly enough, the study claims that men who cheat actually drink less than men in monogamous relationships (you'd think only having sex with one person would actually lead to more boozing) mostly because they're watching their weight and have to stay sharp to pick up Mad Chixx. Some other helpful hints based on our unscientific Cosmo research: If a dude orders a Six Point Sweet Action, he is pretentious. If a dude orders a Flirtini he is probably gay.

But it's not only dudes who give themselves away to be cheaters by their personal preferences: The same UK research group found that women who cheat prefer to shop at Banana Republic. I guess nothing says "I'm a mom on my way to a cheap hotel in Midtown to have dirty sex with a guy I knew in college" like "sensible workwear for women at a mid-range price point"

A Complete, Probably Biased Ranking of Carrie Bradshaw’s 18 Sex and the City Boyfriends

Notable primarily for being the first man Carrie hooks up with onscreen in season one (“Should we have sex like men?”) as well as having straight-up shark face, Kurt’s (actor Bill Sage's) existence was fleeting. He was there, and then he was gone, leaving only the lingering scent of Drakkar Noir and foreign venereal diseases in his wake.

Verdict: One cosmo with lipstick around the rim.

"My Boyfriend's A Stripper"

moving cross country, finding a great partner... or lobbing off all your hair a la Karlie Kloss). But don't fret: It's not an impossible task. It just takes some thought—and great advice.

"A lot of times people don't like what they're doing in their current job, but they haven't defined what they want to be doing in their potential new job," Nicole Williams, career expert and author of Girl On Top, tells Cosmopolitan.com.

She says nabbing your dream job starts with doing some soul-searching: "I ask people to assess components of their current working life, and match them against the career they are looking to get into."

Try asking yourself these questions...

Time: How many hours do you want to work and in what kind of environment? Big company, small, telecommute, work-from-home flexibility (you know, the kind banned at Yahoo!)

Challenge Level: How important is growth potential and being challenged to you? Are you ambitious and ready to lean in, or just looking for a 9 to 5 to fill your time?

Work Environment: Define your best possible scenario in terms of work relationships. Who are you working with and for? What kind of boss would be ideal? Do you have dreams of becoming a boss?

Passion: How important is passion to you? For example, a woman we know races triathlons and feels like she doesn't need to be passionate about her job; her passion is attached to her sport.

6. Money: How much do you need to make? How much money do you want to make?

Steps To Making A Career Change

Stop Delaying

"The longer you are in the job you are thinking of leaving, the further away you are from new opportunity," says Williams. "It doesn't get any easier. Doing it earlier is emotionally, mentally and professionally better."

Be Willing To Sacrifice Something

You may have to start from the bottom (or the middle) and work your way to the top; Either way, be ready to drop a few rungs on the corporate ladder.

"Internships can be a good idea—or be willing to take a pay cut," says Williams. "If this internship, for example, introduces you to influential people and helps develop a skill-set, you'll be able to take these things to leverage them into a bigger position."

Start Saving

"Have a solid idea of the risk and savings in the bank," advises Williams. Even if it means cutting back on luxuries. "If you know the internship is going to last for six months at a minimum, that's the number you need to have in savings, and I normally advise 10 to 20 percent in savings as a risk buffer."

Network

"People love to talk about themselves," says Williams. "Find them on LinkedIn and through people you know, and consult with them."

Williams suggests asking those in similar fields questions like, "I wonder if you'd speak to me about your day-to-day life; What do you love most about the work that you do; What do you wish you would have known going into this career?"

"Those kind of questions are going to give you the information you need and will help you know the people you are going to need to know," she adds.

Now that you are armed with more than just your resume and a fresh manicure, it's time to start hitting the pavement. Happy hunting, gals.

"My Boyfriend's A Stripper"

Do you find dating a male stripper—or former stripper—unfathomable? Considering all of the dry humping, bachelorette parties, and cheap Champagne, we would understand why.

But Jenna Dewan-Tatum did it—and married him—albeit after Channing Tatum's days at the club. And right now, Eleni, 24, is dating an exotic dancer who is still working the pole.

The fashion associate has been dating Dan, 27, for six months now, and she swears up and down that their relationship is as normal as can be. They go to the movies. They fight over the remote on Sunday nights. They both love Italian food.

Except Dan sheds his clothes to disco tunes for money.

Dan was fully clothed when they met at a party at the man mecca where he collects dolla bills. Eleni was there for a 25th birthday, and Dan took notice of her when she bought a lap dance for the birthday girl from another stripper who, incidentally, was wearing a parrot thong.

"It wasn't like [Dan] was thrusting anything around me. He was just a normal guy with a beer, so I said 'yes' (when he asked me for my phone number)," she explains.

And she kept saying yes, over and over. "I didn't think it would ever be serious," she admits. "I didn't think I would actually date someone who was a stripper."

Though Eleni never saw Dan shake his money-maker on Night One, "I've seen him dance," she admits. "I don't like to watch, but I have seen it. He is good at it; He knows how to naturally move, you know? But then it's hard to call him a good dancer when he's doing all these body rolls and crawling on the floor and picking up dollar bills with his teeth."

Still, she claims jealousy isn't an issue.

"I don't care about other girls looking at him, and having to touch him... The girls who go in those places... I'd never be jealous of them," Eleni insists. "He'd much rather be with me and come home to me. I know if anything, he's jealous of what I'm doing when he's out there at the club."

And yet: "It's the faces he is paid to make at them that bothers me—like he likes it or something... And I know he doesn't."

When it comes to bringing some of his little outfits into the bedroom, which consist of g-strings, sparkly Speedos, and even a cowboy costume complete with a whip and furry boots? "Sometimes I'll be all like, 'Hell yeah! Let's do it!' and other times I'm like, 'Ew, no! People pay to see that costume-y s--t and I am your girlfriend!' I like stuff a little more romantic.'"

She doesn't go see Dan perform, or let her friends go see him, although she will go to the club and meet him for a drink at the end of the night, as long as he's not performing and he's already dressed. But as one might suspect, it's not easy dating a male stripper. Dan has driven a wedge between Eleni and her mom, who doesn't approve.

"Things have been much better (between us)," she says of her mom, who has never met Dan, but after finding out his full name, Googled him and was unhappy with what she saw.

"(My mom and I) have barely spoken since (Dan and I) started dating," she admits.

Eleni is hoping to turn things around—as soon as Dan stops stripping. Just like Magic Mike dreamed, Dan is part-owner of the club where he works—but just a small part. The couple is currently discussing a future together—one that does not include Dan's job.

"Some guys in those clubs, you can tell they are lifers. That's what they call them, and you can tell they love it, or at least like it, and they are so good," she explains. "That's not Dan."

"He wants to get into nightlife—and get out of what he does now—if we decide to move in together," she adds.

Eleni says she doesn't know if Dan is "The One," but she's not ruling it out.

"I would never marry a stripper," she says adamantly. "But Dan's not going to be a stripper forever."

Ladies—would you ever date a real-life Magic Mike? Hoot and holler at us in the comments.
