(CNN) -- This year's Hollywood Issue of Vanity Fair magazine showcases a diverse group of actors and actresses -- which is generally making the Internet very happy.
Among the performers featured on the magazine's March cover, an annual showcase for Hollywood's best and brightest, are six actors of color: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Naomie Harris and Chadwick Boseman. All starred in notable movies in 2013, and two -- Ejiofor and Nyong'o -- are up for Academy Awards. They share the cover with some Hollywood royalty, including Julia Roberts and George Clooney.2014 awards season: Does diversity matter more than wins?Observers welcomed the wider palette."Can we get all the-times-they-are-a-changin' for a minute?" wrote Jezebel's Dodai Stewart. "Vanity Fair's 20th annual Hollywood Issue has a three-panel gatefold cover, as usual, but this year, there are actual black people on the first third, i.e. the part you see on the newsstand. Progress!"As Stewart notes, in years past, the magazine has been criticized for featuring a narrow branch of Hollywood talent -- usually a gathering of exquisitely made-up, mostly white, twentysomething and thirtysomething actresses. The 2010 cover, which included a host of young female stars such as Anna Kendrick and Carey Mulligan, probably came in for the most criticism. That year, Jezebel tersely headlined its story, " 'Young Hollywood' Is White, Thin."Vanity Fair has also been criticized for sexism, particularly the 2006 cover, which featured dressed-up fashion designer Tom Ford alongside the nude (and very pale) Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley. But this year has brought approval. Salon's Daniel D'Addario praised the range of age and celebrity wattage as well as race."(The cover shows) a healthy and interesting mix of celebrities on every rung of the star system, from the megastar Roberts to the emerging (Margot) Robbie, as well as more than just a group of white stars," he wrote. The Twitterverse has been equally enthusiastic."Look at all these beautiful black people on the cover of Vanity Fair," wrote @MiaTheBoss."I love this!! Yes, Vanity Fair for setting a record. 6 people of color on their cover," tweeted @JermaineBrowne.However, some people said they believed the cover wasn't diverse enough. On Vanity Fair's website, rmpfdx wrote, "Black and white is not diversity. It's easy tokenism. Where are the Latinos (who far outnumber blacks in this country)? Where are the Asians? Where are the Native Americans? Hollywood always make sure to include one black and then forgets that other colors and ethnic groups exist too. This cover doesn't inspire -- it sickens."In a press release, Vanity Fair played up the abilities of the cover stars."For the 20th annual Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue, the magazine celebrates a year of spectacular film with a group of distinguished actors," the magazine said. The cover photo was shot by Annie Leibovitz./* push in config for this share instance */cnn_shareconfig.push({"id" : "cnn_sharebar2","url" : "http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/04/showbiz/vanity-fair-hollywood-cover-diversity/index.html","title" : "Vanity Fair earns praise for diverse Hollywood Issue cover"});Friday, February 14, 2014

The Hairstyle Hollywood Is Flipping Over

Looking for a new relaxed style that screams sexy? Take a cue from Kristen Stewart, Miranda Kerr, and the hair at DVF's spring 2013 fashion show.
With natural texture flowing and hair that's haphazardly flipped across the top of your head, creating a wave toward the hairline, this look is a refreshingly easy one to recreate.
However it isn't the first time we've seen it. Remember those '90s TV characters we knew and loved, namely Donna from 90210 and Kelly Kapowski from Saved by the Bell? Yeah, basically the same style.
We're all about embracing this look because it's goof-proof and effortless, yet still comes off as a total sexpot style.
Here's how to pull it off:
Backstage at DVF, hair guru Orlando Pita lifted some of the models' hair (they all had different styles) at the root toward the hairline and spritzed it with Phyto Phytovolume Actif Maximizing Volume Spray, $28, sephora.com. Then, he locked in the formula using hot air from a T3 blow dryer, allowing the root lift to dry for added volume. Finally, he released the hair out of his hands, letting it fall to the side. See, easy, right?
Will you be trying out this I-just-did-my-hair-two-seconds-ago 'do Saturday night?

Hollywood, Please Make the Hillary Clinton Biopic <i>Rodham</i>

This Sex and the City-esque tale of Hillary's early years is both the stuff of our dreams and the premise of the red-hot screenplay Rodham, which is circulating in Hollywood with the potential of becoming a big-screen Hillary biopic. Move over, The Iron Lady!
Rodham screenwriter Young Il Kim told Politico the script is "a journey of a woman who was torn between her personal desires and her professional ambition—both literally pulled her thousands of miles apart, because Bill did not want to leave Arkansas, and she did not want to leave Washington, D.C."
Before she was first lady and secretary of state, twenty-something Hill was the youngest attorney on the House Judiciary Committee working to impeach President Richard Nixon. Mr. Big, a.k.a future president Bill Clinton, was chasing his political ambitions in Arkansas. (Eventually, she moved to Little Rock.)
How heartening to know that Hillary was once a young singleton, trying to get her act together, maybe occasionally taking a break from impeaching the president to have a cocktail or two with her girlfriends on the Hill and tipsy-dialing Bill from the nearest payphone? Sounds just like some ladies we know IRL 2013.
Among the many additional reasons we would like to see this film: fiery intellectual Clinton fights and subsequent love scenes! And, seriously, a look at how Hill laid the groundwork for her badass career.
Though Rodham is just a script right now, there's a good chance it'll head to the big screen, considering it made Hollywood's Black List, the annual, uber-powerful roster of film execs' favorite screenplays. (Past films who made the cut included Oscar nominees The Social Network and The King's Speech.)
Who should play young Hillary? After seeing how she deftly transformed into Princess Diana, we're thinking Naomi Watts. If you guys have any ideas, holler at us.

Kim Kardashian's big fat Hollywood wedding

2011 is certainly the Year of the Wedding. So far we've had a Royal Wedding, a Rockstar-Supermodel Wedding and now a Reality Wedding. Yep, reality screen queen Kim Kardashian is finally a married woman, tying the knot with baskeballer Kris Humphries in an extravagant OTT ceremony fit for, well, a queen.
The 30-year-old star spared no expense for her big day, wearing not one, not two, but three (!) custom-made Vera Wang dresses, ultimately walking down the aisle in an ivory, strapless gown with a full tulle skirt and hand-applied Chantilly lace appliqué.
Co-maids of honour, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian and bridesmaids Kendall and Kylie Jenner and Kris' sister, Kaela all wore ivory gowns inspired by Pippa Middleton's form-fitting Alexander McQueen gown. Kim's mother, Kris Jenner, also wore a statement Vera Wang dress, complete with an oversized bow. Kim's nephew, 21-month-old Mason was the ringbearer, and almost caused a near accident with mum Kourtney stumbling as she carried him down the aisle.
The 440 guests, who included Kim's stepbrother Brody Jenner and girlfriend Avril Lavigne, Lindsay and Dina Lohan, Spice Girl Mel B and hip-hop star Ciara, were all asked by the bride to wear only black and white. In keeping with her monochrome theme, even the 10-tier wedding cake was only chocolate and vanilla.
So, sad you missed out on all the action? Don't worry, you can still keep up with the Kardashians - the wedding will be televised in a two-part special in E!
