The "Face-kini" Is Becoming a Thing

Women in Qingdao, China, are hitting the beach wearing bathing suits and "face-kinis," locally made face masks that block their skin from the sun and protect against algae and jellyfish. They come in multiple colors and can be paired with a typical bathing suit or a full wetsuit.

High fashion magazine CR Fashion Book noticed the burgeoning face-kini trend and published a photo spread of models wearing a very stylish version of the masks. The goal, according to the magazine, was to showcase "an opposing ideal of beauty altogether, with masked poolside models set out to soak up as little sun as possible."

CNN reports that middle-aged women started this trend because they felt uncomfortable showing themselves at the beach. While the face-kini is great for keeping your skin shaded from the sun, you will have an interesting situation on your hands if yours is ill-fitting and results in burns only around your eyes and mouth.
