2013's Signature Side-Swept Style Becomes Badass

You might be over the one-shoulder, seriously sexy, side-swept hairstyle, but since there are zero signs of it slowing down, we suggest taking a cue from Khloe Kardashian, Cara Delevingne, and Kristen Stewart and switching it up a bit. How? By weaving an intricate French braid (or three, like Khloe's!) into the side that's pulled taut—that's how.

Just so you know, we're into this style because of three reasons: 1. If we see another plain Jane side-sweep, we're going to lose our sh*t. 2. The braided side makes your mane look instantly badass and can really add to your overall look—even if you're just rocking jeans, a white tee, and pumps. 3. The petite plaits give a fresh take on what seems to be 2014's signature hairstyle. Thank you, sweet baby Jesus.

The only downside is that you might need your BFF's help to achieve this look—especially if you have no freaking clue how to French braid.

So what do you think of the side-swept side braid?

How to Find Your Signature Scent

I have two close friends that share the same signature fragrance—Christian Dior Hypnotic Poison—and when they walk into the room, you know they've arrived just by their scents. I want that kind of entrance! But while I love the perfume on Lauren and Candice, when I spritz it on, all I can think is that this is theirs.

So, I called up senior perfumer Stephen Nilson at Givaudan to find out how I could find my own she's-arrived scent, and what he told me made finding my signature fragrance sound super simple! Here's what he said:

1. Let your personality lead you. "People who are more shy might want to go for something subtle, while those who are outgoing might want something that's stronger. Regardless, you want to choose a fragrance that you feel comfortable pulling off," says Nilsen.

2. Go with what you gravitate toward. "If you like vanilla, gardenia, or rose, seek out scents that have those notes. One way to do that is to go online at iperfumer.com or download the free app. There you can rate your favorite perfumes and also get recommendations on other scents that people who also liked your fragrances rated highly, leaving you one step closer to finding your signature scent."

3. Take a fragrance challenge. "Don't be impulsive and purchase a scent that won't make it in the running as your fragrance." Nilsen suggests picking two fragrances that you've always wanted to try, get samples, and wear them each for one week. Then, observe whether or not people are giving you compliments. "That's a surefire sign that maybe you've found your new signature scent."

4. Get inspiration from fashion. "Take a look at the trends, what classics are making a comeback, and what the latest styles are," he says. "All of this information can give you some great inspiration on different fragrances to go along with your own personal style. Also, see what your favorite designers are doing, or explore what they've launched in the past."

All of these avenues should inevitably lead you to your signature scent, but Nilsen gave me another piece of advice that I think is worth mentioning: "People go through phases and moods with fragrance, just like when you're craving carbs and then suddenly switch to coveting chocolate, so consider having a fragrance wardrobe instead of one go-to scent. That way you can cherry pick from multiple fragrances, once you've collected a few, rather than just wearing one year-round."

Have you found your signature scent or will you be using these tactics to find your personal fragrance?
