12 Realistic New Year's Resolutions You Can Definitely Keep

It's that time of year again. You're ready to change your ways, turn over a new leaf, and actually conquer your resolutions — yeah, never mind all that. Here are easy resolutions you actually can do that don't involve cutting back on carbs or having less fun.

1) Resolve to not resolve to do something unrealistic. If you're not going to quit Diet Coke entirely or go to the gym every single day, don't tell yourself you will. (But do quit smoking. Cigarettes are worth the pain of being given up entirely.)

2) Throw out underwear and socks with holes in them. This is 2014. This year, you deserve better than drafty panties.

3) If you haven't already, watch Scandal. Watch every episode. Once you start you won't be able to stop so this will be easy, trust.

4. Subscribe to one less magazine. This way you might actually read all the ones that come to your house already.

5. Do something naked other than bathe or screw. Just one time. Just one thing.

6. Be on time at least once. Don't be 20 minutes late. Just the once. Don't curl your hair before you leave the house, you'll be on time and look almost as good. You can deal with one night looking only almost as good as you want to.

7. Drink a glass of water every day. So easy. You probably do this already!

8. Watch Pitch Perfect. It's on cable every five minutes. No excuses.

9. Learn how to make really fucking good mac and cheese. This may be the most rewarding item on this list.

10. Read one book. Even if it's Harry Potter or The Hunger Games — you don't have to read Infinite Jest for it to count. Or if you're feeling REALLY lazy just read one of those shorter ebooklet type things.

11. Have something delivered. Dinner. That shoe rack you've been meaning to pick up at the Container Store. Whatever else you wish you had but are prevented by your own laziness from obtaining. Delivery is the gods' validation of your laziness and is nothing to be ashamed of.

12. Make a New Year's resolution.

7 Fashion Resolutions to Make—and Keep—in 2013

Sometimes resolutions are hard to stick to (like quitting smoking or going to the gym), but these seven style-focused improvements are ones you'll want to make—and keep.

Visit your local vintage store. You can find little gems in thrift shops and who doesn't love a bargain. Plus, as the saying goes, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." One tip to keep in mind: If you find a piece that you fall in love with but isn't your size, take it to your local tailor to have them alter it. Since you got it at a second-hand store, the overall cost (tailoring included) should end up being less than the item's original price.

Edit your wardrobe. If you're anything like us, your closet is probably about to explode. And we're guessing you don't wear half of the items in there. So, go through your clothes and ask yourself, "Would I buy this today?" and "Have I worn this in the past year?" If the answer is "no" to either question, it's time to donate or toss it. Can't part with certain pieces? Invite your friends over for a Sex and the City-like get-together, throw on some 80s music, and try on what you're iffy about. Then, let them decide the fate of that frock, top, or pants in question.

Step out of your fashion comfort zone. If your friends refer to you as neutral Nancy, perhaps it's time to throw in a splash of color here and there. (Solid colored work dresses are always a safe bet if you want to take the plunge.) If you're already willing to try different trends, push yourself even more and pick up a pair of patterned pants or exaggerated cat-eye sunglasses that you might not normally reach for.

Go for that form-fitting something. If you usually take a cue from the Olsen twins—layering garments like it's your job—this year we dare you to show off your phenomenal figure in a skintight suit, dress, pair of pants.

Shine bright like a diamond. What you can pull off sartorially comes from confidence. So, if you're wary about wearing something out of the box, hold your head up high and rock it like Rihanna would. Even if you don't feel 100 percent confident donning mixed prints or a form-fitting dress, you'll come off as though you do.

Wear more jewelry. You don't have to pile it on all at once, but wearing a little bling with a white tee, jeans, and black pumps, for example, can change your look completely.

Get inspired. Inspiration is all around us. It's on your pinterest board, Instagram, in magazines, on celebrities—basically everywhere you look. So, rip out outfits you love and post them on your fridge, pin them, or take a screen shot from Instagram on your phone to remember an ensemble someone wore that you'd like to replicate. Then, the next time you're in a pinch to put an outfit together for work or a date, you'll have the solution right in front of you.

Will you be making these fashion resolutions this year?
