James Franco's Selfie Manifesto, Retold In Selfies

In a new editorial for the New York Times, prodigious selfie-taker James Franco writes about the grainy medium's importance — selfies bring attention, and "attention is power." Justin Bieber gets a shout-out in particular (described as "the reigning King of Instagram," which links neatly with that time Franco himself Instagrammed a shirtless photo of the Biebs. As you'd expect from NYT content, Franco's piece is a serious discussion of the "celebrity selfie," and the symbiotic relationship it fosters between a starlet and his/her fans. Let's recap the analysis... with Franco's infamous selfies:

And in conclusion, here's a photo of Franco taking a selfie because that will probably be the next craze.

Emma Roberts Seduced By Coach James Franco In Palo Alto Trailer

Yeah, yet another Coppola is throwing her hat into the directing ring — Gia, the 26-year-old niece of Sofia and granddaughter of Francis Ford, has debuted as a director with the trailer for Palo Alto starring Emma Roberts and James Franco. The movie, based on a short story collection Franco released a few years back in during his Fiction MFA phase, follows Roberts as a talented soccer player who's seduced by the team's coach, played by ol' Twinkle-Eyes Franco himself.

The reality is that most adolescent student-teacher relationships can get prettttty dark. In fact, I think it's fairly common to find one Cool Young Teacher Who Curses And Stuff at every high school who develops borderline-inappropriate relationships with some of the female students.

Unfortunately, the one at mine didn't look like James Franco (he basically looked like a short, more orange version of Pornstache from Orange is The New Black, sans stache), but it didn't matter, since I was too busy crushing on boys who did whippets while standing around the Stop Sign right outside the school zone. Because I was a popular, well-adjusted teenager with many exciting extracurriculars.

But I totally get it — I did date a TA in college once, and that was pretty hot. After all, in the immortal words of Ludacris in "What's Your Fantasy," "Schoolteacher / lemme get my grades." Which means sex. I think.

Have you ever been in Roberts' place with a teacher?

James Franco: actor, writer, teacher?

James Franco Oscar-nominated Renaissance man James Franco just can't seem to keep busy enough. As well as acting, writing and producing art installations, he's now adding teaching to his CV.

Students at Columbia University will surely be clambering to enrol in Franco's class, which is dedicated to making a documentary film about...James Franco. Yes, really. The class is called "Master Class: Editing James Franco," and the 12 lucky students selected to enrol will use footage of Franco to create their films.

Yes, it strikes us as pretty narcissistic, but honestly, who cares? Sign us up, Professor Franco!

PLUS: Have you met James's brother, Dave? He's our Hottie of the Week.

Hello, James Blunt

This is your first album in three years. Were you nervous about how your fans would react?
It's always strange to be locked away in a studio for fourteen months, recording and writing. You're never really sure what the feedback will be, so it's always surprising and nice when it's good!

Your first album was so successful. Do you feel a lot of pressure to sustain that in subsequent albums?
Only because people ask me that question a lot! For me, it's irrelevant. I just want to make albums that i love. Charts aren't always the best way to measure success, because music is so personal. At the end of the day, I just want to make a great album that my fans will enjoy.

What's it like when people tell you they really connect with your songs?
It's amazing. A lot of people connected with "Goodbye My Lover" and "Same Mistake". I get such a kick out of writing songs and having people tell me they've felt the same way. I am blown away whenever that happens.

You're a good-looking guy who writes love songs. Got any crazy fans?
I have...very keen fans, for whom I'm terribly grateful. It's very nice. But nobody has ever done anything too crazy. Once, I got in a bit of trouble on stage. I jumped off stage to run to the audience, but the security guard stopped me and wrestled me to the ground. I don't think he realised I was the singer.

We've heard rumours that you moonlight as a dance producer...
No, that's all made up. A few of my songs have been remixed for clubs, but that's all.

You've said previously that you struggle with fame. Has that changed over the years?
I said that at the beginning of my career. I still think fame is very shallow, and not a great way to measure your success. I hate the idea that kids say they want to be famous when they grow up - it's a strange thing for someone to desire, because it means a complete loss of anonymity. That said, there are obvious upsides - I have a great life. And I'm quite used to it by now.

You got your pilot's license at 16 - are you still flying?
I still have my license, but if I was flying a plane you were travelling on, I'd suggest taking a parachute.

Finally, why should we buy your album?
It's very upbeat, more optimistic than my last. There are still some love songs, but it's more positive.

James Blunt's new album, Some Kind of Trouble, is out now through Warner Music.
