7 Birth Control Questions They Didn't Cover in Sex Ed

CAN I SKIP MY PERIOD BY NEVER TAKING PLACEBOS?

Yes. It's totally fine to skip the inactive pills.

CAN I GET PREGNANT FROM ANAL SEX? ORAL SEX?

The odds aren't zero. Semen has to get inside your vagina—tough to do via the anus and mouth—but fingers and hands could move semen there.

IF I FORGET MY PILL, CAN I GET ONE FROM A FRIEND?

Not a good idea. Each brand has a unique for mula. Even pills in the same pack age can be different!

WILL ANTIBIOTICS SCREW WITH MY PILLS?

No, unless it's Rifampin or Rifabutin, used to treat tuberculosis. But some Rx meds decrease the Pill's effectiveness, as will St. John's wort. Ask your doc if you need a backup method.

WHAT ABOUT MOLLY? POT?

Recreational drugs don't affect hormonal birth control…if you remember to use it.

IS IT TRUE AN IUD OR THE RING CAN FALL OUT?

Rarely, an IUD slips out of the uterus (since you asked, it's most often during a BM), and a doctor must reinsert it. Ditto for the ring. But you can just rinse it off with warm water and reinsert it immediately.

I DRANK TOO MUCH AND THREW UP LAST NIGHT.…WILL MY PILL STILL WORK?

If you vomited within three hours of taking your pill, count it as missed. Take another active pill—and if you're on a progestin-only pill, also use condoms for 48 hours.

Got a question we missed? To use Planned Parenthood’s text program, text “COSMO” to 774636 (PPINFO) and then ask any urgent sex-related question (i.e., “Can I take a morning-after pill even though the condom broke two days ago?”). A health educator will write back—in under a minute when they're open (visit plannedparenthood.org/chat to check times).

Broad City: The Female-Driven Comedy Show You Didn’t Know You Wanted

Do you like Girls for its honest depiction of twenty-something ladies staggering around New York in a haze of confusion and ambition, but find it sometimes gets a little too off-puttingly dark for you, what with its Q-tips lodged in ears scenes? (There’s no shame in wanting to see women of your demographic exhibit, say, a touch of joy on TV every now and then, right?)

Well, I have really awesome news for you guys: The silly, wonderful, Amy Poehler-produced web series Broad City, which follows best friends Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glaser from Brooklyn parties to benches in Washington Square Park—and also from the beds of random dudes-of-the-moment to boring office work in Manhattan—has just been snagged in a 10-episode deal by Comedy Central, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As the New York Times put it in a profile of Abbi, Ilana and the show's progression, “What started as a two-minute clip of asking a homeless man for change grew into an anthology with chapters on female empowerment, sexuality and embracing, rather than postponing or dreading, adulthood.”

Notably, it’s also a paen to female friendship, which is certainly not the route that Girls is going down these days. When’s the last time you saw Marnie, Shosh, Hannah and Jessa in the same room together without sniping at each other?

Poehler, noted Friend of All Ladies, serves as the producer of Broad City. She guest-starred on the show’s final Web installment (after Kristen Schaal dropped out and the finale seemed done for), and has been championing the show during its development for the small screen.

Says Poehler: "I'm excited to work with Comedy Central and introduce Abbi and Ilana to America. And all the other countries. And also Mars. We've got big plans."

Yay!!! Check out a sneak peek here:

He Didn't Want to Date Me, He Wanted to Be Me

I clicked on his profile to check out his pic--gorgeous! He was tall and Italian and had dark wavy hair, the same color as mine. I liked his vibe, so I e-mailed him. He wrote back and told me that he loved my style, and we started messaging back and forth.

A few days later, Chris asked me to meet in person. He picked the venue--a cool downtown bar in New York City, where we both live--and called me on the Tuesday night before our Wednesday date to con firm. I'm not sure whether it was his sexy Italian accent or the fact that he had such great manners, but I hung up and thought Wow.

The next night, I put on my favor ite black dress and high-heeled boots and headed downtown. Chris arrived a few minutes later. He was about 40 pounds heavier than his profile picture suggested and looked about 15 years older, but I was still attracted to him. He helped me with my coat and pulled out my chair, and he moved in this smooth, confi dent way. We had a great conversa tion, and at the end of the night, he gave me a brief kiss. I was excited to see him again.

Unfortunately, I got a cold that weekend, so I couldn't see Chris right away. He sent me a ton of texts anyway, writing stuff like "Are you sure you're okay?" It was a bit much, and it made him seem a little needy, but I thought he was probably just being sweet. The next Thursday, he wrote to ask what I would think if he got his ear pierced, adding that he already had his nipples done. I was cool with it, but in retrospect, it was a weird question to ask some one you'd just met. I was finally feeling better, so we agreed to speak that weekend.

I didn't hear from Chris until 7 p.m. that Saturday, when he texted, "I got my ear pierced. BTW, I want to tell you that my Dad is living with a guy and having a sex change." I was baffled at the randomness of the text but also empathetic, so I wrote back, "Glad you feel comfortable telling me that, but it seems weird to do it over text." Then I asked what he was doing that night. He said he was busy but didn't say why--but around 9 p.m., he texted again to tell me that the reason he was busy was that he was actually on a date with a guy. "He looks like George Clooney," he typed. "U would love him!" I texted back, "WHAT?" And then, the bombshell: He wrote back that he wanted to have a sex change to become a woman. He confessed (all via text message!) that the reason he chose me on Match.com was for my style--he loved my dark hair and the way I did my makeup and was hop ing that I could help him get the same look. I felt shocked, betrayed, and angry that he'd led me on like this--I didn't join a dating site to find a style twin. So I responded, "I mean, really? REALLY?" and switched off my phone.

The next day, Chris messaged me to see if I wanted to go shopping at Gucci. Then he told me that he'd just bought a fab new pair of Louis Vuit ton heels and I could borrow them--although they were a size 11, so maybe they wouldn't fit. At this point, I was done with Chris. I blocked him from my phone and changed my e-mail address. Good luck, Chris--hope you find a new shopping buddy.

So You Didn't Get the No B.O. Gene

Yesterday we wrote about the two percent of people who don't produce body odor and we still haven't quite moved past our jealousy of those lucky ladies.

Most of you will probably find this statistic way more relatable: Women can sweat on average 30 times (yes, 30 times!!!) more than normal when they're stressed or nervous (hello, first date!), which can lead to more body odor, according to Secret Research and Development. We knew we were sweating more in those sticky situations, but wow!

So, if you're not a two percenter who hit the genetic jackpot, here's a new deodorant to try: Secret Clinical Strength Stress Response Anti-Perspirant Deodorant in Serene Citrus, $8, at drugstores.

The new formula is four times more effective at protecting against stress-induced underarm wetness than ordinary antiperspirants because it fights all three sources of sweat from heat, exercise, and stress.

How does it work? It uses odor-neutralizing molecules to trap odor, lock it away, and then replace it with a fresh scent. This is especially important when fighting stress sweat, since the odor tends to be stronger because it comes from the Eccrine and Apocrine gland, the latter is larger and produces more lipids and proteins and thus more nutrients for bacteria. Translation: Your body odor smells worse.

What's your favorite B.O. battler?
