Bill Gates Will Pay You to Invent The Next Best Condom

As if inventing the Internet wasn’t enough, Bill Gates wants to invent the next generation of condoms. Who knew the Microsoft super nerd was so sexy?

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is offering $100,000 of funding for a new and improved female or male condom that feels super good and makes everyone want to have the safest, sexiest sex ever. The contest is part of Round 11 for the Grand Challenges Exploration initiative, a five-year-old program run by the Gates Foundation that encourages innovation in global health research. The reason for this particular challenge is prefaced with the obvious: Dudes don’t like the way condoms feel.

The official call for entries states, "The primary drawback from the male perspective is that condoms decrease pleasure as compared to no condom, creating a trade-off that many men find unacceptable, particularly given that the decisions about use must be made just prior to intercourse." True and truer. Even if you stroke his ego with an XL Magnum, chances are he'd rather go bare.

The challenge, as Gawker reported, goes on to explain that while condoms have been used for about 400 years (all lambskin, we presume?), there has been little technological advancement for the last 50 years. And the main change has been in quality control and the primary use of latex for the condom's material.

Here's what the Gates Foundation suggests this newfangled condom provide: Enhanced pleasure, ease of use and more appealing packaging. We'd recommend adding a husky voice recording in that package (and maybe some disposable handcuffs?) for good measure.

As for proposals, they should be well thought out with "a testable hypothesis, (ii) include an associated plan for how the idea would be tested or validated, and (iii) yield interpretable and unambiguous data in Phase I, in order to be considered for Phase II funding." Testable hypothesis? Stop talking dirty to us, Bill! Applications are due May 7, so start getting busy, brainiac.

Oh, and in case you thought a bacon-flavored condom was your ticket to success, think again. Been there, done that.

Zac Efron’s Condom Incident

We didn’t think it was possible to like Zac Efron any more but now…we freaking love him. Not only is he a great actor and insanely cute, but apparently he also practices safe sex.

Zac had a slight red carpet mishap at the premiere of The Lorax last night when he accidentally dropped what appeared to be a, uh, condom while posing for pics.

Here’s what went down, according to a video that’s making the rounds and eyewitness reports: At the premiere, Zac put his hand in his pocket for a moment before giving something to his assistant. When he pulled his hand out, a small, square package that looked like a condom went flying out.

Being the super-cool guy that he is, Zac simply stuffed it back into his pocket and quickly mouthed “Oh my God!” to his assistant before throwing on some shades and posing like a champ. Okay, he took a quick timeout to turn around and crack up beforehand, too, but really—can you blame the man? When he faced the cameras again, he looked sexier than ever.

To recap, not only does Zac seemingly practice safe sex, he’s really, really good at bouncing back from a totally awkward situation. Sigh.
