First Female GM CEO Makes Half Of What Her Predecessor Did

While the new CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra, was namechecked by President Obama during the State of the Union to illustrate how far women in the workplace have come, her paycheck doesn't reflect it. Barra is only making 48 percent of what her predecessor, Dan Akerson, netted in the same position.

Barra gets $4.4 million in total compensation, including a base salary of $1.6 million, in 2014. Akerman, who had far less experience in the industry than Barra, made $9 million in compensation last year, comprised of a $1.7 million base salary and $7.3 million in stock. He also continues to make more than Barra as an advisor to GM.

For the sake of argument, Yahoo Auto argues that the final shareholder quotes won't be rolled out until June, and it's unfair to analyze and judge the discrepancy in Akerman and Barra's wages at this point.

Nevertheless, this reflects the overall state of the wage gap that continues to exist between male and female execs; the latter still make 18 percent less than the men, even the highest-paid employees. Embarrassing.
