It's Ryan Gosling (and Kate Winslet) to the rescue!

We always suspected Ryan Gosling was a total gentleman, but now there's video proof. The 30-year-old actor surprised some passers-by when he calmly broke up a street fight that got out of control in New York over the weekend.

Two men were apparently arguing over a painting when it started to come to blows. Around the 30-second mark, it's Ryan to the rescue as he approaches the two men, puts down his shopping bag and puts an end to the violence. Who needs Superman? Swoon.

However, Ryan isn't the only Hollywood hero today: Kate Winslet has also emerged as a real-life heroine after she carried Richard Branson's 90-year-old mother from a burning home in the Caribbean. Apparently the Virgin tycoon's house was engulfed in flames during a terrifying lightning storm.

"She [Winslet] was staying there with her children and in fact it was she who carried my mother out of the house," explains Branson. "She swept her up into her arms and got them out of the house as fast as possible."

It's good to know these stars are more than just pretty faces!
