How to Look Good in Your Driver's License Photo

We weren't surprised when we saw that Kate Middleton's Olympic pass picture was, well, as stunning as she is. But scoring a photo you wouldn't mind flashing around in public often isn't the case when you sit down at the DMV for a driver's license or a passport photo. So, we asked celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow just exactly how to prep to get that perfect pic.

1. Apply a yellow-based foundation all over your face. The yellow undertones (compared to pink ones) help cancel out any redness and also warm up your face a bit so it doesn't appear sallow-looking.

2. Use an illuminating concealer to brighten skin. We like Clinique Airbrush Concealer Illuminates, Perfects, $18, sephora.com. Usually the light at the DMV or passport center is dark, so you want to make sure your skin is well lit on its own. A brightening concealer—applied to areas like your undereyes, around your nostrils, and on the bridge of your nose—helps cancel out any shadows instantly.

3. Dust blush onto the apples of your cheeks to fake a natural flush. We like Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush Glow and Mood Boosting Powder, $9.88, amazon.com.

4. Swipe neutral tones onto your eyelids. Try Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Toast, a peachy taupe, $21, bobbibrowncosmetics.com. Then, line your inner, upper rim with black eyeliner, and coat your top and bottom lashes with mascara. This combo brightens and wakes up your eyes, whereas darker eyeshadows can cause your eyes to look sunken in and tired.

5. Add a little color onto your lips. A rosy tone, such as the ones in NYX Cosmetics Lip Gloss Palette in The Naturals, $8, amazon.com, enhances your natural lip color perfectly. Steer away from too much gloss though, since the flash will bounce off of the sheen and blow out the color.

6. Powder your T-zone. Right before you get your picture taken, dust a little mattifying powder, like Hard Candy Welcome Matte Mattifying Translucent Powder, $5.71, amazon.com, over your T-zone to get rid of any unwanted oil.
