Anna-Megan Raley, under her pen name Claire Crawford, segued into this critique with an equally-charming lead in: "The Rockets looked terrible in Game 1, but some say they weren’t the only bad-looking people on the court. We’re not trying to be ugly. We are just discussing what men like in women, specifically NBA cheerleaders."
Oh, cool! Like that 8th grade popular girl who took you aside and oh-so-sweetly warned you that there were rumors going around that you gave head to Spencer Levy in the Little League dugout after school (she started those rumors, and you so DID NOT, by the way), Raley is just trying to help.
For that matter, she thinks it's suuuuper brave of Kelsey for going on with her larda*s self. "[Williams] has been criticized by some folks in [Oklahoma] for having “pudginess” around her waistline… Is this chick “too chunky” to be a cheerleader? [If] she's comfortable wearing that tiny outfit and dancing for NBA fans, then good for he. Besides... not every man likes women to be toothpick skinny. I'd say most men prefer a little extra meat on her bones. Am I right?"
Nice try. A poll that accompanied Raley's post asked readers to judge Williams' figure for themselves: the three options read "She the perfect look to be an NBA cheerleader," "she could use some tightening up in her midsection," or "she has no business wearing that outfit in front of people."
It wasn't long before the Swift Hand of Internet Justice smote Raley and CBS Houston for the comments. Supporters spoke out for Williams on Twitter, and the article was removed from the website.
This is precisely the kind of crap that drives young women to eating disorders. Good work, everyone. By the way, she is not too fat to cheer. Jesus H. Christ.
