Street Style-Inspired Hairstyles You'll Want to Steal Now

Even if you're an I-wear-my-hair-down-everyday kind of girl, it's fun to do something a little more stylized to your hair from time to time. Here are two tutorials to get you started: one for a chic side-ponytail braid and another for a feminine French twist, worn by two of street style's most famous faces: stylist-slash-designer Rachel Zoe, and socialite-turned-style icon Olivia Palermo.

Hairstylist Matt Fugate shows us how to mirror these mane masterpieces.

First up, Rachel Zoe's elegant side-ponytail braid. Yes, it looks complicated, but I assure you it isn't.

Here's how to recreate R. Zoe's look:

1. "Start by parting the hair using your pinky finger, beginning in line with the middle of your right eyebrow and ending behind your left ear," says Fugate. "This diagonal part sets up your hair to flow to the left, which is the direction you're going to be braiding it toward."

2. "Put the hair that falls on the right side of the part in a ponytail (so that it's out of your way) and then loosely grab three sections at the hairline and get ready to start braiding," he adds.

3. "Once you start braiding, only pull in sections of hair that fall along the hairline, so that the braid stays toward the front like a headband," Fugate says.

4. Secure the braid behind your ear with an elastic hair tie.

5. "Take the hair to the right of your part out of the ponytail it was in and grab it, along with the braided ponytail," he says. "Make sure to leave out a one-inch thick section of hair at the nape of your neck, since you'll need that to wrap around the elastic band in the next step."

6. "Take the bottom section you left out in the previous step and wrap it around the hair tie to conceal it," says Fugate.

7. "Secure the wrapped hair with a bobby pin by inserting it into the hair elastic—this will hold the hair in place better," he adds. Then, as Madonna would say, "strike a pose."

Next up, Olivia Palermo's French twist. Looks hard to do at home but: YOU CAN DO IT!

Here's how to get Olivia's dainty 'do:

1. "Part your hair once in the center, and then section off two front pieces by parting your hair again from the center part down the side of your head, ending directly in front of your ears," says Fugate.

2. "Clip the front sections forward, so they're out of your way, and then take small sections of hair all over your head and finger tease them for a Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands-like texture," he says. "Back-combing with a brush can wreck your hair, but lightly pushing your hair towards your scalp won't damage, but will still help tease it."

3. "Once you have that fluffy, mussed-up texture all over, grab all of your hair (not including the two front pieces) with your palm facing upward and your thumb facing the floor—now you're ready to do the twist," says Fugate.

4. "Start turning your hair to the right until it's tightly twisted and tuck the ends into the twist," he explains.

5. Secure the twist with bobby pins so it doesn't unravel.

6. "Unclip the front sections and drape them in a curved manner along each side of your head," says Fugate. "Then, lock them into the French twist with a few more bobby pins. If you have bangs or layers, you may want to use the clips to help keep your hair swooped in place until you can hairspray it for a more secure hold."

7. Finish with a light hairspray to help everything stay put, and then pose, because girl, you look good.

Steal Ashley Greene's Sexy Curls

We're huge fans of Ashley Greene here at Cosmopolitan: Her style, makeup, hair, confidence—we admire it all. So naturally when we saw this pic of her at the premiere of her new movie Butter, we just had to find out how to recreate her hair.

Ted Gibson, stylist and owner of the Ted Gibson Salon in NYC, gave us the rundown on how to get Ashley's look at home.

- Start off by using [Ted Gibson] Fix It Gel, $19.95, beauty.com, mixed with [Ted Gibson] Tame It Shine Lotion, $16.27, amazon.com—about a quarter size of each—and run it through your hair, roots to ends, while it's damp.

- Then, blow it dry, raking your fingers through your hair first. When it's 3/4 dry, use a paddle brush to smooth your strands until it's completely dry.

- If your hair isn't long enough to copy this goddess-glam look, pick up some clip-in hair extensions to add length. After clipping them in, use a medium-sized curling iron to curl and set your entire head.

- Let the curls cool, and then gently brush your hair out with your paddle brush to give it that soft, retro 70s vibe.

- Finally, sweep your strands over your left shoulder and finish by misting them with a medium hold aerosol hairspray to keep your style in place. Try Mark Locks in Place Buildable Hold Hairspray, $14, meetmark.com.

The Seduction Secret We Have To Steal

There’s something about Evan Rachel Wood that’s undeniably sexy. Maybe it’s the roles she’s played (did you see her in The Ides of March?!), her sultry new Gucci Guilty Intense perfume campaign, or the way she carries herself. But whatever she’s doing, it’s working.

That’s why we listened up when she was willing to share her go-to seduction secret. Evan travels a lot for work, so she said she makes it a habit to leave her guy an empty bottle of her perfume when they’re separated.

This move works, she explained, because it gives your guy a taste of you when you can’t be together. “It’s just enough to make him feel closer to you,” she said. Plus, scent has been proven to really turn a guy on.

This is definitely effective when you’ll be apart for a while, but you can also use it when you see your guy every day (and you don’t have to empty a bottle of perfume to make it work). Try spritzing a pillow at his place with your scent before you leave. Or, if you live together and leave for work before he does, spray a little in the kitchen before you head out for work so he’ll get a taste of you when he wakes up.

How do you use perfume to seduce a man?
