Nina Dobrev Rocks The Nail Color of Summer—a Mod White Mani—on <i>Cosmo</i>'s September Issue

Remember in middle school when you painted your tips with Bic's Wite-Out instead of paying attention in math class? Well, the days of whiting out your nails are back in full force.

"White polish on your fingers and toes is mod, clean-looking, and very popular during summer months [for starters, it makes you look sunkissed instantly!], and it's a great canvas for nail art," says Tracylee, nail guru and Sally Hansen ambassador, who painted Cosmo's September cover girl Nina Dobrev's nails with the chic shade. "But the coolest thing about this color is that if you're not ready to go stark white, you can opt for iridescent white shades, which will give a similar, yet less intense effect."

But while white lacquer is super hot right now, its chip-rate is about 100 percent, since it's highly pigmented and opaque. And, when it starts to come off, it's highly noticeable, which makes you look, well, unpolished. So, we asked Tracylee to give us the secret to keeping your mod mani in tact for more than a week.

"First you're going to want to take off your old nail polish with remover and then swipe your nailbeds with a cotton ball covered in rubbing alcohol. Nail polish remover has conditioning agents that are left behind on your nail, which leads to improper adhesion. The rubbing alcohol clears away any of these conditioning agents so that your basecoat sticks better to your tips," explains Tracylee.

"After applying your basecoat, always coat the free edge (aka the very tip) of your nail with polish first, and then paint the rest of your nailbed. Capping the tip of your nail minimizes the amount of chipping, since you're essentially sealing the polish on your nail," she says.

"Lastly, it's a good idea to reapply your topcoat every two to three days. This just strenghthens the barrier that protects your polish from chipping," adds Tracylee.

For a hot-right-now white polish to paint on asap, try Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color in White On, $3, drugstore.com, which also happens to be the exact lacquer that Tracylee used on Nina's nails below.

Here's a closer, behind-the-scenes look at the Vampire Diaries star's white tips, complete with the intricate nail art that was applied for our shoot.

What's New? Rihanna's Hair Color, That's What.

Is Rihanna wigging out or did she dye her 'do...again?

According to her Twitter, the singer had two photoshoots yesterday: One for her River Island clothing collection and another for her partnership with MAC, leaving us wondering if she walked off with one of the wigs that was perhaps used on set, or if this is truly her new hair color. We're hoping for the latter, we love a good strand shade switch-up!

But either way, we're down with her new look—plus, everyone else is going blonde for summer, so we're not surprised, if RiRi actually did dye her hair, that she jumped on the blonde bandwagon, too.

E! Online initially broke Rihanna's new 'do news, revealing that she debuted her new layered cut, bangs, and super light color in NYC. She paired her rocker-chic style and shade with a denim jacket, leather pants, black and tan pointy-toe flats, a red clutch, a gold collar necklace, and, of course, a classic red lip. Natch.

Like we said, we love this look, but what do you think of RiRi's new platinum color and cut?

Which Beyoncé Hair Color Wins in Her New H&M Video?

Meet the Beauty Bloggers

Carly Cardellino: I'm the beauty and fashion editor here at Cosmopolitan.com. I'll try just about anything once (I have the crop cut—my hair used to be super-long—and body wave to prove it) and then report back. I'm obsessed with hair products, like volumizers and salt sprays, as well as mascara, nail polish, a good foundation (right now I'm using Tom Ford Beauty Traceless Foundation SPF 15), and blush (it literally changes the way you look in seconds)—hopefully you can see why I'm in this business. I also love picking out head-to-toe outfits for friends whether they're going on a date with their guy or a black-tie wedding—so feel free to click on that "contact" link below and send me a question.

Leah Wyar: Ladies, I’m the DIY beauty guru. My specialties? Spray-tanning and mastering the at-home manicure. I’ve tried dozens of spray-tanning formulas and have mastered the art of the self-tan (don’t worry, I’ll share!). Plus, I paint on the hottest nail trends every week (currently I’m obsessed with the glitter and dark polish trend). Follow me as I branch out and perfect my DIY skills (up next: waxing!).

Marta Topran: I’m obsessed with making my skin as glowy as possible. That means trying out every anti-aging potion out there and never leaving the house without some sort of shimmery highlighter on my cheekbones. I’m also the resident brow and lash addict. Right now, I’m rocking super long lash extensions that I can’t believe I ever lived without.

Hello, Spring! 5 Ways to Work Color Into Your Beauty Look

Today's the first day of spring (yay!), we're taking a cue from the First Lady and incorporating color into our beauty look stat. At this point, MObama is basically the First Beauty Editor, right? She's setting trends every month.

Our Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles got a close-up look at MObama's blue eye liner yesterday and tweeted: "Check out @michelleobamas aqua eye liner, pretty rad for a First Lady @whitehouse #women'shistorymonth." And we totally agree, she looks amazing and so fresh-faced.

So, in addition to lining your top or bottom lash line with colored blue liner (or any shade, really), like Michelle Obama did, here are four other ways to splash your beauty routine with a little ROY G BIV:

1. Top your lips with a coral-colored lipstick. The shade works on all skin tones, since it's a blend of peach and pink, and it's so on-trend for Spring it hurts. Try Revlon Color Stay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in It Girl, $10, drugstore.com.

2. Or go for a hot pink shade on your pout. This color is a playful alternative to a classic red, making it the perfect Spring shade. Plus, if you're sporting barely there makeup and want to kick up your look a notch, this color is the way to go. We like Illamasqua Lipstick in Eurydice, $24, sephora.com.

3. Do up your digits. Spring is the time to dabble in color, so why not coat your tips and toes with Crayola-like colored polish? Whether you go for brights or pastels, you can't go wrong.

4. Add some color to your strands. We're taking a page out of Peter Som's book for this one. Change up your hair color either by clipping in a pale pink, blue, or purple extension or using temporary hair dye to switch up your strands for a subtle rainbow effect.

How will you be incorporating color into your beauty look this spring?

The Truth Behind Miley's "Blue" Hair Color

Our March cover girl Miley Cyrus isn't afraid to mess with her mane.

Proving to be a hair cameleon, the fun fearless female recently tweeted "My hurrr ain't blue. That shits PLATINUM." Admittedely the singer "went heavy on the shimmer lights," which imparted a silvery tinge to her very short tresses.

We love her new pale-purple-meets-pewter hair color, but Miley's tweet got us thinking about pigmented shampoos and conditioners.

When your hair is as bleach blonde as hers, it's super porous. And porous hair soaks in everything. So, when you're using these pigmented purple formulas, such as Clairol Shimmer Lights, which really does work wonders when it comes to canceling out any brasiness in your blonde 'do, it's important to remember these three things:

1. If you bleach your hair constantly, when you wash it with a purple shampoo and conditioner, saturate it with water first so that the H2O fills up any holes in your hair shaft. That way it won't be as porous and soak up the colored sudser and conditioner.

2. Use both the pigmented shampoo and conditioner to get the full benefit of the formulas. They're meant to work together, instead of leaving one of them on for a longer time period in hopes of cancelling out any yellow tones.

3. Don't leave the formulas on longer than the instructions say, and make sure you rinse them out thoroughly (unless you want Miley's awesome effect, of course). These kinds of shampoos and conditioners are highly pigmented and super powerful, so you want to be sure to follow the instructions they come with to get the desired results.

Okay, so now that you're up to speed on pigmented shampoos and conditioners, we have to say that we love that MC has fun with her hair and changes up her look often. It actually inspires us to do the same.

What do you think about her new hair hue?

Three Easy Ways to Kick Up Your Hair Color in 2013

If you find yourself annoyed at the fact that your hair color is dulling or that your roots are more visible than Jon Hamm's package, then you're going to want to listen up.

Hair color doesn't stay salon-worthy forever, people. It loses its vibrancy, regrowth happens, and shades get altered from the sun (hello, brassiness!). But, thanks to three brand new, at-home hair color products, we promise your strands will be super shiny and stay ultra-bright, longer.

So what are these hair color gifts from the beauty gods? We're glad you asked.

Roux Color Refresh Mask, $5, sallybeauty.com. This color-depositing mask takes three minutes to work its magic, reviving your hair color, conditioning your strands, and adding radiance back into lackluster locks. Expect the color to last through three to five washes, depending on your hair type.

ColorMark TouchBack Plus sulfate-free Shampoo and Conditioner, $30 each, ulta.com. Both products deposit temporary color onto your hair and is to be used between permanent colorings. The formulas revive dull color (on natural or color-treated hair) that lasts through two shampoos, protects your hair against UV fading, smoothes and repairs damaged hair, adds shine, and tones down grays (if you have them). Oh, and when you don't need to add color, you can use the TouchBack Plus Clear Shampoo, $25, ulta.com, for color maintenance and UV protection.

Revlon Luxurious ColorSilk Buttercream, $6, revlon.com. This ammonia-free, permanent cream hair color uses Revlon's Buttercream technology that offers up color that stays truer, longer; looks even; and adds radiance, shine, and manageability. The Triple Butter Complex it contains also uses mango, shea, and coconut butter in the color and conditioner to helps increase moisturization without that icky greasy feel (score!).

Clearly we're all after sexy-as-hell hair color, so if you're in a bind and need to amp up your shade, these formulas are the latest way to go.

Will you be incorporating on (or all) of these products into your at-home hair color regimen?

Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara...in Color?!

During the month of August, America's best-selling mascara—Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara—is available in color! The collection, which consists of these four fun shades: Blink of Blue, Pop of Purple, Totally Teal, and Go Go Green, is on sale now for $6.40 each, at drugstores nationwide.

Not sure which shade is for you? NYC makeup artist Troy Surratt breaks it down for us—plus, how to wear them:

- Blue-colored mascaras not only complements every eye color, but it also instantly brightens the whites of your eyes, making them appear whiter and clearer.

- Purple or violet formulas emphasize hazel eyes best, bringing out their golden or amber flecks.

- Teal mascaras looks gorgeous on women with blonde eyelashes, since it shows up well on light lashes.

- Green hues tend to be the trickiest, since they highlight reddish tones in and around the eyes. If you're planning on wearing this shade, Surratt suggests applying it to your tips only. Then, lining the lower inner rim of your eye with a nude eye pencil, like 3 Custom Color Specialists Light Clarifier Pencil, $16.50, qvc.com, to cancel out any red tones.

Regardless of the color you choose, coat both your top and bottom lashes. If you're not ready to go full throttle, just wear the colored formulas on your bottom lashes only and swipe black mascara on your top fringe.

The No. 1 rule when flaunting a colored fringe: Keep the rest of your makeup subtle. Now go on and get them while they're hot, girls!

We're Wild Over Kate Bosworth's Melon Lip Color

Tangerine Tango might be Pantone's color of the year, but melon is making a splash on the red carpet these days, gracing the lips of actresses like Kate Bosworth.

But while we're still into a bold lip color for summer, we like the idea of mixing your look up with a softer shade of orange—especially when it's paired with barely there makeup and a casually done 'do. So. Freaking. Gorgeous.

Score this look by simply swiping on a sheer orange balm with peach undertones, which makes it appear less bright than, say, a bright orange hue. These formulas contain just the right amount of pigment, so you can leave it sheer or coat it on for an opaque look like Kate wore here.

Try Palladio Tinted Orange Lip Balm, $1.99, ulta.com and Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Oversized Orange, $16, amazon.com.

Will you be trading in your traffic-stopping, vibrant orange hue for a more subdued version?
