Is your Tinder date spending more time taking selfies than actually talking to you? Here's a quick way to figure out if you should have swiped left: Just flat-out ask him if he's a narcissist. The results will be surprisingly accurate, according to a study published in the journal PLOS ONE this month (via Science of Us).
Researchers from Indiana University, Purdue University, and several other colleges banded together to figure out a single-question way to determine narcissism. In a series of 11 studies of more than 2,000 people, they proved the Single Item Narcissism Scale — i.e. just asking, "Are you a narcissist?" — works nearly as well as more intensive methods to figure out whether a study participant is a narcissist.
Here's how they phrased the question, for use on all your first dates: "To what extent do you agree with this statement: I am a narcissist. (Note: The word 'narcissist' means egotistical, self-focused, and vain.)"
