Spiderman star Andrew Garfield had been scheduled to present an Award at last weekend's Oscars, but was replaced at the last minute by Chris Evans. (Which is a fair trade.) Earlier this week, sources explained his absence as due to "personal reasons" involving his girlfriend Emma Stone's family. Page Six now says that's not the case, though, and that instead Garfield basically had a diva moment during pre-broadcast rehearsals — and then bailed on his skit.
Cruelly, that meant 5-year-old Batkid Miles Scott missed out on his Oscars debut. Scott came to the public's attention when the Make-a-Wish foundation fulfilled his dream to be "Batkid" for a day last November. (Having been diagnosed with leukemia as a toddler, he just entered remission.) The entire city of San Francisco played along, watching Miles save the day in classic comic book plotlines — he rescued a lady, defused a fake bomb, and caught the bad guy. In further recognition of his bravery, he was scheduled to be inducted as an official superhero at the Oscars.
And Garfield was tapped to do the honors, but Page Six says that during rehearsals he "decided he didn’t like his lines." After producers vetoed his rewrites, he apparently "had a tantrum" and stormed off. Miles' family are believed to have witnessed the messy scene and "were devastated." Though Captain America actor Chris Evans filled in, the superhero segment was cut from the broadcast. As an apology, producers later gifted the Scott family tickets to Disneyland.
